The best 9 seconds of the internet

Pretty much everywhere, it's gonna be hot.
Bullwinklesays...

I love how everyone has basically the same reaction: LOL, but not sure why, exactly.

If I can ruin the humor by laboriously explaining why I think it's funny, then. It's charming in the way that it mirrors a large-scale morning chat show, but is the lowest scale possible. It's like these lovely people are doing what they think a morning show is supposed to be (right down to the "Thanks, Arthur"), but there's no real reason for it (does anyone in Haiti really need to know that "Pretty much everywhere it's going to be hot"). Add to that the guy's delayed, great laugh and you have yourself a complex, short and funny as hell slice of video heaven.

And after witnessing this, I believe I am one giant step closer to seeing everything in the series of tubes we lovingly call "The Internets".

My take on it: recently, the station enacted a policy where everyone appearing on the show must where a beige jacket, to look more professional / uniform. Sure, there has been grumbling and watercooler protest, of course no one wants to wear them, but they begrudgingly follow the policy.

Then, given this opportunity, she seizes the moment to protest, and publicly.

Oh man. I needed that.
I've been watching "Hostel" from Eli Roth five minutes ago ... and, to change my mind, I've told to myself : "Let's go to the sift, there's always something nice. Let's take a trip to 'cute' or 'happy' channels".

I'm not a believer, I'm kinda agnostic, and I just wanted to say : may one of the gods that may exist bless you.

-shall join raytrace in a hearty down vote....lol'd so little as to have said utterance confused with throat clearing.....

AnimalsForCrackerssays...

The reason why I found it funny, a light-hearted lack of context combined with: The murderous look on his face after she said she won't need her jacket, only then to unexpectedly break out laughing.

AnimalsForCrackerssays...

Ok, perhaps that was an exaggeration, for the sake of comedic effect. It seemed like he had a slightly perturbed, "What did you just say to me?!" look or it's just me over-analyzing things once again.

budzossays...

Viewer_999 got it exactly. The woman obviously hates her jacket, and is protesting the mandate to wear one. The weatherman is probably also the producer or something, which made him question or second-guess his reaction first. Either that or he's just on island time.

MarineGunrocksays...

I'm sorry - normally I would just ignore this, but I really don't think it's deserving of so many votes.. Or even half. Or a quarter. Or an eighth.

10659says...

When he says "it's gonna be hot", it looks like he's holding back laughter. I think either this is part of an inside joke they were having off the air, or this guy is stoned out of his mind. Either way, I love it!! I've watched it about 25 times now.

LuketheDriftersays...

Can't believe it, but I actually agree with MarineGunrock on this one. This video is just not that funny. I did watch it twice though, just to see if I missed anything the first time... I didn't

CaptWillardsays...

Okay, so it may not be deserving of so many votes. Having said that, what the fuck is wrong with laughter? Vote your conscience, by all means. But I found this Haitian bonhomme's laughter infectious. Is that so wrong?

EDDsays...

it's funny because it looks vintage (80s or so), kinda fake (all the plastic fruit, beige jackets, that TV pin on Arthur's jacket, etc.) and just randomly happy. combine that with the fact that at first you couldn't understand what he was saying and prolly replayed it 2 or 3 times and the properly overhyped title (props to fissionchips) and voila! 130+ votes. and imo there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

choggiesays...

Never have I seen so many crackers, discussing something as inane, as the motivations for or against, why or why not, not to mention the errant infection of up-votes cast....

hypocrites. racists. Drunk on impractical knowledge of the experiential world and more than likely unable to use crude hand tools-so enlightened and erudite a crowd a robots we are here.......carry on, but please, don't make any more genetic contributions......

rottenseedsays...

oh man, had to get my daily dose of this.

Choggie...aren't you white? Are you one of those white people who think denouncing other people for portraying white stereotypes will give you the soul and passion of a downtrodden and oppressed minority?

My Spanish teacher is from Colombia; he said they don't even have a weather segment because the weather is always the same

This is the most confusing comment I've seen on the sift. Just a few comments before this one you said:
"-shall join raytrace in a hearty down vote....lol'd so little as to have said utterance confused with throat clearing....."

This was the first comment on this topic discussing motivations for up or down-voting a video... The lash out at the end is peculiar too

10714says...

ok, let me explain why it's funny to me....

1. The weatherman everyday has to say the same thing every damn day, "its gonna be hot". no matter what, its gonna be hot, every freaking day in haiti!even when its raining its hot!

2. yes, he probably did smoke a fat joint. Thats why its funny to stoners.

3.NOONE NEEDS TO WEAR A JACKET IN HAITI. The anchor doesn't have to be "anti jacket". listen, go for the simple obviousness: who wears a jacket in haiti when its so damn hot all the time? nobody! that's why its so funny, they all see the ridiculousness that they are wearing jackets!

stop trying to over-analyse. go for the simple explanation. its funny!

Yes, nice vid fission!

I'd like to see more of the footage, they're all trippers! Does Arthur involve himself in the show at any other times I wonder? And surely he has been on more than once. I want more!

bravo!

Best 9 secs for sure! Along with Turtle Boy and uh "tossing the salad"! Good times.
