Kids Cover "46 and 2" By Tool and Kill It

About the song from Wikipedia:
The title (46 and 2) references an idea first conceived by Carl Jung and later expounded upon by Drunvalo Melchizedek concerning the possibility of reaching a state of evolution at which the body would have two more than the normal 46 total chromosomes and leave a currently disharmonious state. The premise is that humans would deviate from the current state of human DNA which contains 44 autosomes and 2 sex chromosomes. The next step of evolution would likely result in human DNA being reorganized into 46 and 2 chromosomes, according to Melchizedek.
Furthermore, the song references a wish to experience change through the "shadow"; an idea which represents the parts of one's identity that one hates, fears, and represses, this exists as a recurring theme in the work of Carl Jung.

My shadow's

Shedding skin and
I've been picking
Scabs again.
I'm down
Digging through
My old muscles
Looking for a clue.

I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own confused
And insecure delusions
For a piece to cross me over
Or a word to guide me in.
I wanna feel the changes coming down.
I wanna know what I've been hiding in

My shadow.
Change is coming through my shadow.
My shadow's shedding skin
I've been picking
My scabs again.

I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own chaotic
And insecure delusions.

I wanna feel the change consume me,
Feel the outside turning in.
I wanna feel the metamorphosis and
Cleansing I've endured within

My shadow
Change is coming.
Now is my time.
Listen to my muscle memory.
Contemplate what I've been clinging to.
Forty-six and two ahead of me.

I choose to live and to
Grow, take and give and to
Move, learn and love and to
Cry, kill and die and to
Be paranoid and to
Lie, hate and fear and to
Do what it takes to move through.

I choose to live and to
Lie, kill and give and to
Die, learn and love and to
Do what it takes to step through.

See my shadow changing,
Stretching up and over me.
Soften this old armor.
Hoping I can clear the way
By stepping through my shadow,
Coming out the other side.
Step into the shadow.
Forty six and two are just ahead of me.

That was epic. Well done to all involved.

The vocalist had a great voice, not sure if it was right for this song, but definitely will develop with age. Didn't really think the piano added much and it's not a song that lets the guitarists shine, but they played well. The bassist owned the hell out of it... but let's be honest, the drummer was the star. He absolutely nailed it.

An incredible cover of one of my favourite songs from my all time favourite band...

ps. I think her voice is perfect. I've had some fun re-recording Tool and Metallica with a vocal shift to make the lead singer sound female, and they do actually sound awesome (Memory Remains for example).

The singer was kind of digging at my skin. I don't think this is the right song for her. Or something. I can't quite place it but it didn't do Maynard justice at all. But then, big shoes...

But damn that drummer's going places.

Her voice is great, but it's too controlled for this kind of song. This isn't a music school recital, it's Tool. You should feel the emotion, it SHOULD crack, it should be imperfect at the right time.

I don't know if this is her kind of music.. Maybe it was just a school project, maybe not. If it is what she's into, I have no doubt she'll learn and grow. She certainly has the raw talent.

Also, this reminds me very much of "Songs of Innocence and Despair" by The Langley Schools Music Project. A music teacher in the 70's taught a bunch of popular rock songs to a group of Canadian elementary school kids, then made a record. The songs are at once beautiful and heart-rending. Well worth seeking out.

Asmosays...

Yeah, not an unfair comment. Don't know if she's deliberately restraining herself or just a bit unsure, but it still rocks.

I can understand picking Tool as a school project though, their music is so multi faceted and involved (not to mention the sheer number of instruments and effects used to create their sound), featuring some really wacky timings etc (Lateralus) that it probably constitutes a master class... =)

Her voice is still developing, she's not holding-back, those vocal chords are a work-in-progress mate, she's barely 15 yet-

15, really? Sheesh, I'd have guessed something closer to 12. Either way, I think it's safe to say she has a promising career ahead, if she wants it.

Nice promote @eric3579

I try to keep the torch alive on this one by incorporating the song (specifically this cover) into English classes for my high school age students in Thailand. Made a worksheet where students try to fill in the blanks, order phrases in the chorus in the right sequence, etc.

The Thai students usually enjoy it -- even the ones that are generally more into Lady Gaga / Justin Bieber. After filling in the worksheet I play the Tool original, but the students find it much easier to hear and identify the words in this cover.

I have to agree about the singer. She was great, but clearly doesn’t have the crushed soul or mind numbing angst required to properly channel Tool.
*quality cover…will it hit 100?
