Sarcastic Commenting
You've probably noticed by now a new "sarcasm" checkbox in the comment form. This is a result of some discussion the four of us had at the latest Sift Up regarding how difficult it is to discern sarcasm in typewritten language and how easily that can lead to unnecessary misunderstandings and arguments.
To assist with this, you can now mark your comment as sarcasm. This will cause your comment to be displayed with a subtle visual hint that it should not necessarily be taken to be on the level.
We think this is a unique and fun feature that should add (at least in a little way) to community discussions and hope you agree.

yeah, well, why don't you just hold my hand while I sift, too? EH???
Why don't you take your little checkbox and shove it up your sifter?
lol gay
I was a little unsure of it when just imagining it, but you know what? Seeing it in action, it really makes an immediate difference. Psychology FTW!
This is the dumbest thing to ever make an appearance on the internet. And there's a lot of Sara Palin on the internet.

*holds UsesProzacs' hand and sifts us both off a cliff
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
Oh man ... I'm so glad we had that Sift Up.

But seriously - I'm so glad we had that Sift Up!
Thanks Lucky and Dag, this really helps out a lot.
Good thing you are making useful changes.
I really notice the difference.
@siftbot is about as useful as Google Wave.
Hey, how do I remove a misplaced sarcasm tag?
You know what would be really useful? An irony checkbox.
Yes but will it untie the knot in QM's dick?
uh oh, might need a double dose </sarcasm>
This is a wonderful feature and I welcome its introduction.
I think a lot of people will use this
This post is not sarcastic.
You don't like the knot? It lets you know when it's halfway in.

I checked it, now what?
Jes sayin
that's dumb...
...yes I'm aware it's unchecked

Is there any way I can keep the sarcasm check mark on? It seems it would make my life a lot easier
This is so much better than functional comment quoting. I'm really glad you took the time to implement this instead.
Sarcasm is best when not everyone gets it. Irony is dead. Long live irony.
My good friend just passed away from AIDS. I don't think I get this sarcasm thing.
Here's the old way we used to write sarcastic comments. End them with:
Does adding it negate this?
I propose an "Honest Injun" checkbox, just to cover our bases.
Somehow this takes all the fun out of sarcasm.

OK!

You weren't being sarcastic?

Nah, it was like this: [sarcasm]You suck![/sarcasm]

I guess by ignoring all the bugs and introducing new features instead, the bugs will eventually fix themselves.

I can't tell when a picture link is sarcastic.
....what? I'm serious.
Posts containing sarcasm without the sarcasm-flag will be seen as a violation of the new sarcasm guidelines. Violators will be flagged ... with pie!
@lucky760 : Sarcasminated coloured comment-boxes are hard to be recognised as such. Especially the darker ones.
I can only imagine the amount of catty shit talking that took place at the SiftUp for this to be implemented.

The sarcasminated comment styles have been tweaked a bit to make it more obvious for all comment styles, whether in light or dark mode.
<In comic books you can always tell>
<When they are talking in a foreign language>

Good for them
sarcasm is supposed to be lost on those who do not detect it on their own
I think we should have a guide explaining when to use the sarcasm checkbox.
Ba dum tch!
God this checkbox bothers me.
Sarcastic intonation is a fucking sin. Like, there is actually a level of hell for it. If you can't say it deadpan then don't say it, otherwise you may as well follow every sarcastic comment with the inverse. This Checkbox is really cool! (The checkbox isn't cool - ed)
So I'm torn between not using it, or using it on every single post like some sort of metasarcasm.
the worst part of the sarcasm checkbox is that people don't seem to understand the difference between "just kidding" and "being sarcastic"
You are way off base. Everyone is well aware of the difference.
...you do realize that a sarcasm button only gives me the opportunity to be doubly sarcastic by not checking it, right? muahahaha
