NetRunner gets his crown, forcibly collectivizes peasants

VideoSift just crowned another member, brothers and sisters, and this one is a man of the people. It's none other than Sift newsman and politico NetRunner, Now many of you know that NetRunner started his meteoric rise a little over a year ago, but actually he's been here for almost 3 years. That is, if you can trust his birth certificate. In any event, he's brought us a lot of great political discussions via his video selections, and his News channel has become a valuable addition to this place. He also brought us Mrs. NetRunner, better known as mintbbb, and even though she's taking some time off she's also brought a lot of great videos to this place. They've both had a very positive impact on this place, so I'm really glad that NetRunner decided to become active.

So let's congratulate our Obamunist friend, unless you want him to send you to the gulags Obama is having built at this very moment. He's already mad with power, I tell you.

Boo! *Discard! Boo!

Welcome to the kingdom, old friend. You've earned it. Now that you are royalty, you no longer have to take Obama in your mouth. You can safely spit him out now. You've won the internets.

Remember to show this to your DNC station head at your next performance review.

Don't think of it as a crown, think of it as a big basket.

And don't think of them as 1000 points, think of them as one thousand freshly polished apples!

A very well earned and deserved crown NetRunner. It's amazing, you've amassed 31,617 total votes and managed to get 31,854 of them in the politics channel. That's a difference of -237! You are the king of politics, so much so the politics channel just gives you extra votes (237 so far). You have siftbot working campaigning for you somehow.

Keep up the great work.

Congrats!

Holy shit, that's some serious siftin'. Thanks for all the hard work and videos from election season. Your work enabled me to not ever have to watch or read the news elsewhere and still stay informed (I did anyway - just sayin').

Maybe you can add your time wasted throwing newscasts in the face of the unwilling to your resume-Every dying regime needs her familiars, finger-pointers, and informers. Congratulations. You have found a comfortable niche in rousing the mob. A thousand monkeys and a thousand typerwriter.

Thanks for keeping me updated on the inner workings of the American political scene. Without you I wouldn't have laughed so much from watching episodes of South Park and The Simpsons.

Cheers!

A king among peasants.

I thought you only started here around the 2008 election, but your user account says 2006. I guess you're like evolution, you had your Netrunnerian Explosion in 2007/2008. Seriously, if everyone else pulled out of the election08 and politics you'd still have filled it to be one of the more packed channels on the sift.

I salute you.

NetRunner, as your name implies, you've been running the net (namely this site) for some time now. Finally you'll get the official title and the respect deserved.

Now all you need to be a complete person of power, is find a mistress and have an affair (I suggest an Argentinian).

NetRunner says...

Thanks everyone. You (temporarily) humble me with your praise.

It's been a wonderful experience from the start. I felt pretty well versed in politics, history, economics, etc. before I came here, but interacting with people here, and watching videos seriously whet my appetite for more. It's encouraged me to read more, pay attention more closely, and actually get involved in the process. I discovered how much more there was to learn about it all.

To be honest, I had stopped watching the news after a second Bush started a second war in Iraq. I figured then that the world was going to hell in a handbasket and no one else cared (or even seemed to notice).

From my perspective, things have changed drastically since then. People seem to care. It seems like more and more people are paying attention to the process every day, and more and more are having their voice heard. People are looking past the usual propaganda, and trying to reach a real understanding about the truth.

I know there's more than a few people who don't care for my particular positions on issues, and I know I can be tough on those people from time to time. But even if I can't convince you to see things my way, I hope I can light a fire in you to care about what's going on, seek out more information about what's happening, and get involved.

To quote a certain candidate for President:

One voice can change a room, and if one voice can change a room, then it can change a city, and if it can change a city, it can change a state, and if it change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world.

Your voice can change the world.

I want that to be true. Every now and then, you guys make me think it is, and that gives me hope that if we work hard enough for what we believe in, it really can make a difference.

So thank you guys for putting a crown next to my name; it's just one more great thing you've all given me these last couple years. I hope my words can express how thankful I am for everything you've done for me.

PS: Now go call your Senators and Congressmen and tell them you want a strong public option in the healthcare bill...

Throbbin says...

Way to go man. When it comes to progressive politics and informative news/political videos, you have no equal on the sift.

Good stuff....and from time to time would it hurt to let the rest of us sift MSNBC vids first?

EDD says...

Late to the party as usual, eh? No matter - congratulations on the crown, NetRunner I really think you deserved it, because as we all know and as has been said, you practically owned the Sift in the months running up to the election.

But more than that, your posts were what made me take (an even greater) interest in international politics and by watching them not only did I gain insight and knowledge into US politics that ultimately (significantly) surpassed even that of the US citizens that I met in the past months, but they also helped cement the foundation for my social and political leanings. And I honestly think you're the one I have most to thank for in this regard.

So thank you -- and cheers
