Civil disobedience. Love it.

That was great. The police knew what was happening, it was Business that had the problem. And how hard did that ignorant old dude try to intimidate them?

Great work.

Pretty cool but I hate Infowars, there's soo many morons that like them.

Honestly just go to infowars.com and click around. It's full of scary bullshit and spurious claims. It's a joke.

All credit goes to the officer though, we need to make being a Police Officer something great. The regulation should be tougher and the pay at least double what it is. Being a cop should be honorable like being a Soldier is, you're protecting and helping the society as a whole. Heck I think it would be awesome if at 22 or something, everyone had to be a cop for at least a year with an option for more. Money could go towards your education if you want, but it would be really awesome if everyone participated in their society. Making sure kids get to school safely, helping people around town find things. Heck even just simple stuff like walking old ladies across the street, it would be my utopia of niceness!

I definitely don't see it as that. I know plenty of people who are or were in the military, and of everyone I know in that situation they strike me more as being naive enough to be fooled into a role of complete obedience, to the point where they're willing to violently invade other countries, murder their citizens who try to defend themselves, and then get shrugged off by the establishment when their time is up.
It seems to me that the Military is second only to the Catholic church when it comes to talking-the-talk, while walking in a completely different direction.

I can agree that it would be nice if everyone took part in their society. I think everyone feels that way, but we all try to see that through in different ways.

No no no man. I'm talking about how people SEE Cops versus how they see Soldiers. People give up their first class seats to soldiers on airplanes. Soldiers are always polite and helpful. I'm saying we could try to gear Cops as being like that in our society. Work on how they deal with people and their connections to the community cause right now it sucks. Cops are viewed with fear and/or hated most of the time. There's gotta be some more respect going both ways in that situation.

So a lot more training and community outreach, and making the job of becoming a police officer something of pride and a respectable position in the society would go a long way to civilize the nation.

The Loose Change guys are really annoying. The sheriff was cool but opt out? I am rather glad there are fewer lunatics with guns on board my long flights back to the east coast, more than likely due to the scanners.

That poor cop. Caught between a young kid that won't give him a word in edgewise and a old fuck that uses Scientology tactics of intimidation. Kudos to Officer Stan for responsibly handling the situation, although I would have liked him to have pressed the PR guy on showing him documentation that they needed a one million dollar insurance bond in order to film. At least the kids had done their homework and had documentation stating that they could indeed film at a TSA checkpoint.

kevingrrsays...

The public relations guy is what made this video. He escalated the situation and persisted in trying to find a way to force them out. Good PR there buddy.

If he had just let them hand out flyers we would have had a 13 minute video of a girl handing out flyers that would be of zero interest.

The police officers responded very well and professionally. I agree with @Yogi that we need to respect good officers more. They have a tough job.

bcglorfsays...

Just have to add how awesome the officer was in the situation. Although his attitude does contradict much of the message that Alex Jones and guys like InfoWars want to present. Good on him for doing his job and respecting the rights of all parties involved/concerned.

RFlaggsays...

I'll upvote despite the involvement of InfoWars. Like others noted, the cops handled the situation very professionally rather than reactionary. And yeah, had the PR guy let them go about their business there would be no video. If what they filmmaker said is true, then he's been there before and that didn't make a video. It would have just been a waste of his time... unless he considers the info worth it in which case more power to him. As to Opt-out itself... don't know enough about the whole travel thing to give an informed decision.

articiansays...

I hear you. That makes sense to a degree, though I think that perspective of soldiers drastically declines in times like these.

And upvote for this example of a good officer. That's something I shouldn't have left out of my initial comment.

Your sentiments are indeed shared by idealists like myself concerning the integrity and commensurate salaries expected for an elite force of Jesus' with badges. Dream the dream.

Law enforcement is corrupt to the core in the United States. If you join a force with the patience of Job, the benevolent soul of a Sufi master, and the mettle of Bonaparte, you will at some point, in order to keep your job, have to compromise core values and ethics over job requirements. Cameras keep them in check somewhat, but they are bound by association to allow for visits to the dark side for clarity: Law works to maintain control of more than the peace, and to an advantage for a select select few.

Infowars, as hokey a format and as ranting as it's host, represents a healthy and expected reaction/response to the criminal an sociopathic mechanisms of an increasingly non-linear world, and showcases some of the assholes that make life for our miserable asses harder than it should be.

Alex Jones needs a new fucking larynx, listening to his voice is like dragging chains across my cerebral cortex!

The general public is not typically on the receiving end of a soldier's core training (your mileage may vary, country to country).

Cops have a much much steeper PR mountain to climb since it is a big part of their job to punish us, the public, when we break the law. They see us at our worst every day. Poor buggers.

More training would definitely help their cause. I agree with that.

@RFlagg @Sniper007 @Tokoki

Many airports in the US have backscatter X-ray scanners set up at the TSA security gates. Nearly everything that the TSA and the government has ever said about the scanners has been a fabrication.

1) They don't show that much detail
--Nooo, you can pretty clearly see someone's breasts or junk

2) The images are not stored
--Nope. A bunch got leaked onto the internet.

3) They work.
--Nope. Security reviews have shown that it's trivial to get a gun past the scanner by just positioning it correctly on your body.

4) They're safe.
--They refuse to do safety studies on them. They don't even test how much radiation they actually put out.

But, travelers have the right to 'opt out' of going through the scanners and undergo a pat down instead. The pat downs are probably intended to be humiliating as a disincentive to take that route, and they don't tell you that it's an option. But, they take longer, and a large number of people opting out can cause backups in the line. Get enough people to opt out and you can consider it a protest. These people seem to be informing travelers of their right to opt out.

I take the public groping rather than the unrated radiation box. I figure it's at least as embarrassing for the TSA guy.

(All of the things on the list above were accurate at one point. Some were allegedly cleared up. Supposedly they don't get to see an outline of your penis anymore, but they've lied before...)

Also, InfoWars and Alex Jones suck.

I appreciate them using their constitutional rights and actually being informed about them. However, I think this campaign is a little misguided. The reason for these scans is for efficiency. Scans are useful so the TSA doesn't need spend more money/time/manpower patting down ALL riders. So if you want to be selfish because you're squeamish about someone seeing your junk you can opt out. However, I'll hate you for it because I think those resources would be better put to patting down people who can't go through the more efficient process (people with disabilities) and saving some money for other government services.

Since you are apparently about "hating people" should I hate you for believing the TSA is an efficient, effective, and sane use of money? There is more at play here then what you seem to realize when it comes to opting out.

The reasoning, efficiency, or validity of the TSA is not what the video or its proponents are arguing in this video. They are not arguing for removal or even promoting a more efficient alternative to the scanning bomb-check process for airport security. From best I can gather, (the video is distracted by some hi-jinks) they are solely trying to slow down an already slow system. Playing to the traveler's fears that their naked body could be seen by others and influencing people to go through a time consuming pat down process. Thus causing the process to be less efficient and more inconvenient than it already is. This is not exactly a noble pursuit in my point of view.

Change the system using facts and alternatives (call your congressperson)... not by wasting time and resources of people who can't change anything.

Unions would not come into existence if it was not for wasting time and resources because that is what companies care about. Clogging up the airport with opt outs is a valid form of protest and could be effective if many people got on board.

I would love to be a optimist like you and believe government follows facts and studies and just calling a congress person would solve the problem but realistically that does not happen. I could give you examples of this if you want but I believe this fact is obvious enough for it to stand on its own.

I am Canadian and I have met many Members of Parliament over an issue I cared about as well as protested over the same issue. A multipronged approach is best and I believe when it comes to the TSA it would help to clog the system with opt-outs till it breaks.

With TSA's porno-scanners essentially you have this situation http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/410450/security-breach

Whereas with sexual assault groping, you can make things better by making it as uncomfortable as possible for the groper. Wear old, smelly underwear so that they get a nice whiff of your junk. When they start molesting you, you start moaning and get a raging hardon.

2nd paragraph I full agree, pointless name dropping. Maybe he was nervous and that was the best he could say.

Or the bad guys could hit a bridge, a power plant, a hospital, a TV transmitter or one of literally millions of other targets which don't get 1% of the security that airports and aircraft do. It's frightening, to be honest. If this is our democratic, freedom-loving reaction to aircraft being hit, what would it be like if other targets were hit.

We have, quite quietly, become a society were we need to show our papers to the man and be either groped or ogled. How the fuck did this happen? Sure, it's only getting on to an aircraft now. Will we need it to get into a hospital if one is attacked? What about to get into a school?

Why not save time and check our papers and strip us bare when we leave the house? If you object to this, clearly you must have something to hide.

I think he said that to try to make sure the cop behaved, to make sure that the cop knew he'd be scrutinised if he did anything wrong. Seems unfair but with the number of bad cops, I don't blame this guy. Thankfully, it (probably) wasn't needed.
