agoposays...Sweaty hands²
EMPIREsays...If that was the last available job on earth... well.. I guess I was going to become a homeless person, because that is DEFINITELY not for me lol. The stupid thing is, I actually enjoy great views from high up, but I would be absolutely terrified to do that.
I hope those guys get a decent pay for doing this.
edit: Although... some people have really good tolerance for scenarios such as this, so I bet for those guys, it's another day on the office.
deathcowsays...I'm not doing that...
deathcowsays...OK after watching it all, I gotta say no other video has inspired quite that feeling on constant vertigo and unease... i would be dead on the first attempt to do this
toferyusays...Freaky ! Tell me they've considered basejumping an alternative to the 2hour climb down...
antsays...I wonder if anyone has gotten stuck up there before.
SlipperyPetesays...Just when you think the climb's over... "from here, it's only another 60 feet to the top!"

Pussy!
Croccydilesays...I'm thinking that toolbelt he has is really just his ginormous scrotum swinging around.
Esoogsays...As if the other parts werent bad enough, starting at 4:15, I really had trouble watching that. His hands had this "hmmm, wtf do I grab onto now" movement.
I also wonder how much that tower sways?
Trancecoachsays...Mind over matter.
I bet the pay's good.
residuesays...I never would have guessed that these guys actually free climb. I thought for sure they would be clipping in occasionally.
residuesays...New thought.. can you imagine building these things?? There's only one way you're getting all that crap up there - carrying it.. Then you have to put it all together? criminy. I can imagine looking for the right size wrench up there and thinking dammit all this bolt needs a 5/8 wrench and all I have it a 1/2 and a 3/4. Guess I'll climb back down.

I can't do that job.

Great day job for a mountain climber.
Makes you wonder why they don't just build this shit up top of mountains.
Does anybody else play Just Cause 2? I played it a lot earlier in the year and some parts of this video, while cringe-inducing, alternately give me the urge to throw myself off, as I'm pretty sure I could make it to the top of that other tower over there with a clean swoop.
toferyusays...Seen in the YT comments somewhere :
"Those guys are actually quite agile considering the enormous brass balls they're lugging around"
shagen454says...Going up certainly looks frightening; what really scares me (putting myself in their shoes) is going down. Looking down the entire time with all of your weight going down. You probably get numb - weak feet as well as a numb mind.
jimnmssays...I want to see the climb down. I remember going to some forest park as a kid and climbing this tall fire watch tower. You walked up stairs for about half way up, then from there you had to walk on a walkway outside the tower and climb ladders. I thought the climb up was fun and exciting, but when I got to the top and realized how high I was, I was frozen stiff when it came time to go down. When I finally did get down, I realized it wasn't so bad and wanted to do it again.
Even after that I still had a fear of climbing down. Even just climbing a ladder on to the roof of the house. I had no problem getting up, but was always nervous taking the first steps to get down.
Ryjkyjsays...NO! NO! NO! Damn you Budzos!!! He's not even strapped in!!!
AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
PHJFsays...1800 feet? Is this a freakishly large tower or something? I've seen plenty of transmission towers but I don't think I've ever seen one that tall.
Paybacksays...I would carry the extra weight of a parachute. Not for safety, just to get back down quicker.
BoneRemakesays...free climbing seems pretty retarded to me. "oh my safety is not as important as getting to the site faster "
Idiot mentality.

Pushkillsays...I wonder why they don't use a helicopter and suspend a guy underneath it or something?
PoweredBySoysays...Okay, so all that work and danger to.... change a light bulb? Or is this another one of those "because it's there" scenarios?
Free climbing that.... jesus.
Mazexsays...where's the cookie compartment at the top for a climb well done? they should build like a water slide that spirals down and round the tower as well.
Truckchasesays...Makes me appreciate retractable antennas.
quantumushroomsays...They should probably replace that tiny fuse at the top with a remote-controlled circuit breaker.

maatcsays...Worst part to watch for me: When he stands on top and lets both hands(!) go at around 7:20 to get a carabiner out.
Stusays...They don't face jump off because of the support cables. The run extensively down the sides of the towers and for miles outward. They are needed because of the instability of a skinny, yet heavy structure. The sway in the wind would knock it down without a second thought. If they tried to jump and a gust of wind took a hold of them, they would get caught in the support wires and be literally hanging hundreds of feet in the air with no way down.

TL;DR version: Free climbing transmitter towers is not ok with OSHA, and a few guys are discovering that its difficult to fight an unintentional Streisand effect.
