Announcing the New VideoSift Shop

I’ve been laying a bit low of late, but the Sift marches on - and other people have been very busy during the past few months. @lucky760 has been working with our best website friends forever, Neatorama, to build a new online shop for VideoSift.

In fact, Lucky has built the online store for both Neatorama and VideoSift and we’ll be pooling some of our merchandise to make it a good shopping experience for the two communities. We’ll also have our own unique items like the VideoSift tee (now in black, gray, and many other colors!) and designs from TeeVirus.

I should mention something about TeeVirus, our tee shop that Lucky and I started independently. We’ve learned a lot doing this on our own - but we’ve decided to fold it into the new VideoSift Shop. Many of the same designs will be available in the new shop - but we’ll be wrapping up TeeVirus as an independent business at the end of the year.

Lastly, we’ve been hearing what you’re saying about the layers of social media widgets and gew-gaws that have been incrementally layered over the user interface of VideoSift. Today, we’re stripping a lot of that off and providing what will hopefully be a cleaner experience for everyone.

I'd like to thank @lucky760 for all his hard work in building the shop and Chris Murphy for his excellent graphic design.

Lastly, I'd like to thank Alex over at Neatorama for joining forces with us. I've decided that communities on the Internet are like kids in high school. It's good to have some friends to keep bullies like Digg and Reddit from giving us swirlys in the toilets.

and one last thing ... to the *frontpage Siftbot - make haste.

This seems like little more than a neatorama store clone with some videosift merchandise on the side...

Nothing very original here.

Where's the Dag bobblehead? Where's the toilet paper with QM's avatar on it?
You get the idea :-P

I am so broke it's Stoopid. I can't even afford internets right now so I am forced to go into coffee shops to get my daily video sift fix. Also I do not own a laptop so I am the guy in starbucks with a desktop computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse...

Quick question, and maybe this'll come across a tad materialistic..

but if one of our designs from T-virus makes it to the new store, are we still commissioned for it? Are we asked if we'll allow the design over there? I realise that by clicking the "I agree" button, we basically sign away all design rights, but I'm still curious.

>> ^lucky760:
We have no plans to move any designs to the new store from TeeVirus (aside from mine and dag's, if any). Once we shutthe doors for good we will release all rights back to the designers.

I'll go by what you said then, but "Many of the same designs will be available in the new shop" should probably be stricken from the original post to avoid confusion then.

Many of the designs happen to have been created by Lucky.>> ^Shepppard:

It's a lot of work- and it helps us a lot to pool with a site like Neatorama. And since Lucky built and maintains the Neatoshop, it's a natural synergy - if I can use so wanky a word.

Lookin' good. I'm definitely getting one in black.

@dag I'll give you that a decent portion of the shirts are by lucky, a combined total of yours and his designs are 36 out of 111 shirts currently in the shop.

I'm not upset that my designs aren't carrying over, I never cared about earning money, All I ever really cared about was trying to make something that would sell well and create revenue for the sift. However, I still wouldn't classify some of two contributors submissions "Many"

"Many" to me, means about 50-75%, not 30%.

I suppose it's a semantics thing- but I would classify 1/3 of all the shirts as "many".

We do appreciate the designs that everyone has contributed - but the truth is that TeeVirus has never been able to stand on its own- even with all marketing we did for it here on the Sift. I wish it were otherwise. The best, fairest thing we can do is to return all rights for the designs to the designers and of course pay all the commissions. >> ^Shepppard:

^Ditto. I'd call 50-75% "most." The scale goes: one, a couple, a few, some, several, many, most, a whole mess, a shitload, and finally the whole kit and kaboodle.

Aside from all dag said, the bookkeeping would be too difficult to manually track and distribute commissions of all designers' sales, otherwise it might be something more worth considering.

Let me say here... keep my Tee Virus commissions. Really, put it towards a nice cup of tea or something

But seriously, keep it... if I need to make that official via email or something in my account let me know, but I hand my vast sums of commission earnings over to you.
