deputydogsays...official HD versions: 480p / 720p / 1080p
demon_ixsays...Bah. Couldn't resist watching it, despite wanting to know as little about it as possible...
I'm not sure I approve of the extreme use of CGI, but I do like the look of the movie.
By the way, to any World of Warcraft players out there. Do the forest floating islands remind anyone of Nagrand, and do the Na'vi remind anyone of Draenei?
antsays...*actionpack
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Actionpack) - requested by ant.
gwiz665says...Intrigued, I am.
Sarzysays...The first footage from the first film from James Cameron in over a decade -- how is this not number one yet? Heck, how is this not even in the top 15??
*doublepromote!
siftbotsays...Double-Promoting this video back to the front page; last published Thursday, August 20th, 2009 10:24pm PDT - doublepromote requested by Sarzy.
griefer_queafersays...In a word: awesome.
mizilasays...Wait, I'm confused... Which one is the Airbender?

Personally, the floating pieces of land reminded me of Skyland.
And while this trailer doesn't do a huge amount for me, I'm uber excited about this... it's JAMES FRICKEN CAMERON people!
EDDsays...I liked it. I liked it a frikkin lot - despite me trying to be all skeptical and shyeet. The audio track in this was one of the best I've ever seen, masterful creation of suspense.
Draxsays...And just think, it's gonna be in 3-D

This looks sensational - I can't wait. But I hope they offer a non-3d version, I haven't seen a movie yet that isn't better without the 3d.
maatcsays...Looks like a full length Jar Jar Binks feature to me...

I don't think this movie's gonna resort to the cheap 'guy sticks a pen directly towards the camera' routines if that's what you mean.
I'm geeky enough to game in stereo 3D, does amazing things for games like Warcraft, L4D or Fallout 3.
deputydogsays...i've watched it about 20 times now and the music gets me every single time. it's like a guaranteed goosebump hit.
all other studios take note: this is how you make a trailer.
RedSkysays...Prettttyyy.
Exaltedsays...Am I the only one that wasn't impressed with the teaser? The mechs remind me of Matrix Revolution, and the CGI just didn't win me over. I'm sure it's going to be a great movie, it's James Cameron nuff said. I'm just going straight off this teaser, nothing more.
SaNdMaNsays...This doesn't even look close to how it's been hyped up by Cameron. It's not "photorealistic" and does not "look like someone took a camera to another planet". It looks more like a Pixar cartoon than a live action film.
notarobotsays...WOW vs. Halo?

It's supposed to be photorealistic? Even watching a youtube clip of it the thing screams "I'M CG!". The teaser does little for me. Titanic was okay but not my cup of tea.
rychansays...These people claiming it's obviously CG would probably fail an actual experiment to distinguish cutting edge CG from real video.
I think it looks interesting, and James Cameron is the real deal.
dannym3141says...I thought this trailer (when i saw it a few days ago) was confusing and did little to spark my desire:
I don't know why they're being morphed into draenei characters
I don't know why they're suddenly in a jungle
I don't know why they're suddenly fighting people
I don't know who's in the right/wrong regarding this fight
BEFORE i saw the trailer, i was hyped to shit about this film. Having seen it, i'm left feeling apathetic. Having said that, it's james cameron. True lies, terminator 2, terminator, aliens, abyss.... these are some of the most legendary films of our time.
Though i will say that getting sigourney weaver in the film doesn't do much for me - people were telling me it was an aliens reunion with beihn rumoured as well, but if it's just their voice, who cares, ya know?
Rather hear joe dimaggio.

Just by watching the trailer:
-They don't get "morphed", their consciousness is transfered or possibly they are running a waldo. Which actually would be more in tune with the movie's title.
-They always were in a jungle, the human base was a foothold.
-If you were being invaded by aliens (in this case, humans) you'd fight too. As for the human operatives, they probably "went native".
-Knowing Cameron's works and ideals, they are probably both "right". The humans probably have some dire reason to be there, and the aboriginals have every right to defend there homes.
Me, I think this is probably an Iraq/Afghanistan allegory.
Paybacksays...I've always felt the reason "cutting edge" CGI never feels photo-real is because of the perfection of the camera work. The movies and shows that take the extra time to "humanize" the camerawork --District 9, new Battlestar Galactica-- end up looking "photo-real" with less resolution.
mramsays...Some of the video is deliberately jittery. Some people around the internets are commenting about how when the wheelchair guy gets off of the transport, it looks "so fake". Well, that's because the framerate is deliberately choppy. Compare that with other scenes later in the preview where it is silky smooth.
I think people are being overly critical with a video. I've looked at this with 1080p and my limited screens and yes, I would go so far as to say it's "photorealistic". There is a very hard line between what you call "realistic" though -- the alien critters convey some very real emotions and that might be the disconnect for some people. To say this is jar jar binks is almost insulting. Jar jar only conveyed his emotions through physical actions (jumping, hanging his head, etc) where you can actually see easy emotions on these aliens.
This isn't star trek either. Star Trek had the forehead-putty-alien of the week. These aliens are disproportionate, big eyes, foreheads that move, etc. And according to JC, this was all done in real time so the actors could really shine through much like Andy Serkis and Gollum -- but even that performance, he couldn't see his work done live.
And lets talk about James Cameron. He doesn't write the best dialogue in the world sometimes, but his stories are really solid. After Terminator, T2, Aliens, True Lies, The Abyss (his cut)... those are practically geek anthems, often imitated, truly unique.
This is a teaser, don't forget it. I see some true possibilities of continued greatness here. It is definitely not star trek or star wars .. no forehead alien or bland lifeless CGI.
I can't wait until December.
entr0pysays...Were they trying to make the CG characters look cartoonish or do they really not have the technology to fix that yet?
They'd have better results using old fashioned makeup and muppets for the non-human creatures. I guess they couldn't animate with the same freedom of motion, but at least it would be possible to suspend your disbelief.

No. I'm just saying that it's harder than people realize. They see a trailer for this movie and they start watching it with a lot of skepticism. They imagine that perfectly normal and correct renderings are somehow flawed.

you'd rather have rubber suits?
conansays...Funny. It seems i'm the only one who thought that to be absolutely uninteresting, boring and unappealing. Music was lame, total overdose of CGI, trailer doesn't provide ANY idea of what the movie is about except of "look what my new cluster of SGI machines can do".
MaxWildersays...I'd rather have models and rubber suits with a tiny bit of CGI for polish, like the way Playboy uses Photoshop on centerfolds.
I'm still gonna see this movie, but the CGI will bug me. We still don't have the skill to make CGI indistinguishable from reality.
MaxWildersays...And it seems pretty clear to me what the storyline is: humans come to plunder the rich natural resources of a new planet, and its inhabitants fight back. Caught in between is a human who has taken over the body of one of the locals, and he has the unique ability to see both sides of the fight. I'm guessing it's Aliens meets The Abyss.
My oh my, how CG has evolved Mr. Cameron!
Crakesays...But... why are they so tall?
