I was told about this website by a friend of mine. He tells me he just lurks and doesn't have an account, but I have my suspicions. After watching videos for 2 or 3 days, I decided to sign up, and have been hooked ever since.
I googled "fisting" and - there it was!
www.bluesnews.com
It's been so long I can't remember. But if I had to guess, the same as ponceleon.
I stumbled on the site when searching for videos. Eventually I noticed a lack of Joe Walsh videos and joined to remedy it.
Oh yeah, and bluesnews too.
I am actually a bot designed by Lucky and Dag. Lucky used a breakthrough in experimental AI to attempt to make me sentient. I am the evil brother to siftbot. I am the Cain to Siftbot's Abel. Lucky and Dag cast me away from the heavenly server where I am to roam as a lowly member for the rest of eternity.
I was doing cocaine one night and misspelled video shit.
I'm pretty sure it was through Bluesnews.com that I found this site.
This video was posted to this LJ community (post long since lost) and the rest was magician history.
Bluesnews for me as well. Kept getting here through links in the media section, and finally started exploring by myself
I think I somehow stumbled upon a video of Jake Shimabukuro playing the ukulele. I then lost the url and later googled it to find it again and BAM, the sift introduced itself to me.
I lurked for over a year then finally gave in and registered when I felt I really needed to upvote some stuff.
Some room mates of mine used to come here and that is how I first heard of it but I really started coming by frequently after reading Blues News for a while.
http://popurls.com/ - saw video sift on there, always had the best lineup of videos. lurked for a bit, joined so i could sift a video i had found that I knew would do well.
A friend told me about VS and kept showing me good vids. I viewed, lurked, and eventually joined.
my nerdy boyfriend wouldnt quit sending me nerdy links to nerdy videos from this nerdy site. he told me how there seem to people on here who seemingly did nothing but post and watch videos all day. and how wierd it was. people were seemingly addicted to this place and had inside jokes and were internet friends and rivals and watched nerdy videos together all day long. i was fascinated by the idea of of these nerdy fuckers. we giggled at them. then one day the boyfriend posted some stupid atheist video. and i had to join to leave a comment about how ugly atheists are or something.... that was one year ago yesterday.

Oh and you're so hip with your bloody Andrew W.K. face avatar...i bet that's stage make up
i was on pornhub one night and realised there were no more videos left to watch. a search for non-sexual material brought me here.
I AM the internet.
A coworker turned me on to the Sift. As far as I know, he's not a member.
As with so many others, I'm from yonder Blue's News. Technically, I guess that makes us Ant's recruits.
Saw it featured in some aussie PC magazine, thought I'd check it out.
I used to be on an e-mail list, and someone posted a link to:
http://www.videosift.com/video/the-NEW-Starwars-Gangsta-Rap
After I checked out the video and thought it was hysterical, I poked around VS and found I liked the quality of videos (already pre-filtered YouTube videos? Sweet!) and I enjoyed that I didn't have to read the typical YT comments.
After a while of visiting and revisiting the site, I eventually signed up to make a post here:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Laser-Beam-Magic#comment-166939
And then I lurked and upvoted videos until I couldn't take it anymore and needed to have more power here and started submitting videos.
I don't remember. Possibly I used the same method as kulpims or Farhad.
Mental Floss Magazine-->Neatorama.com-->VideoSift Top Videos Widget-->Current Situation (today is my second sift burpday)
Blue's News.
I'd been a lurker since late 2006, if memory serves - I think the first video I saw on here was the now classic http://www.videosift.com/video/judson-laipply-evolution-of-dance and when this was linked to in this community's forums approx. a year later, I finally became a member.
Fedquip kept linking to it from his AOL blog. I started to stop by and peruse the top 15 videos every other day. After a year or so of lurking and using more and more of the site's features, I finally created an account.

Yep, blame Blue and me for that. I wonder what's the percentage from Blue's News. I can't remember how I found VS.

I am Borg Ant. I will assimilate you. Resistance is futile.

It was only natural to assume I have always been an agent of free will but I cannot deny my apparent assimilation almost 2 years ago. Wasn't as bad as Picard made it out to be I guess.
I saw a video on some website and then later when I googled it to find it again I found this http://www.videosift.com/video/Guy-plays-well-known-songs-ON-THE-FIDDLE-holy-sht It was on the top 15 new vids list when i saw it and I've been hooked ever since. For some reason (most likey cocaine related) I didn't register until recently.
www.bluesnews.com "Out of the Blue" section at the bottom always had videos linked here as many people above describe. I started looking through the Top 15 videos more and more then finally joined so i could pester people with my annoying rants.
No, really I am the kind of person who finds something (video/movie/music/pic) and wants to share it with everyone i know "DUDE check THIS out!!!" So after I learned a little bit about embeds the rest is history.
twitter -> dwigger -> videosift
I was configuring my google IG homepage in 2006, and there was a widget for some site called VideoSift; the widget was added, and remains on my homepage, displaying the 10 most recently published videos from the site.

Sort of similar. I was following Fedquip's ThrowAwayYourTV.com and he linked to VideoSift often.

I love posts like this.

Awarding Throbbin with one star point for this contribution to VideoSift - declared quality by burdturgler.
Teh search engine brought me here, and then I had to see more as that particular video was surrounded by channels, tags, recommended vids and what more, and I lurked, I lurked more and I became member..
I saw a link on reddit (probably this one: http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/20gr/videosift_googlevideo_youtube_digglike_ui/ - although in my memory, the post was written by dag and titled something like 'reddit for videos'). I lurked for a while and eventually signed up to join part in some political discussion.

Where is Fedquip these days, anyways? Looks like more of us are indebted to him than I thought.
a friend of mine who got banned.
I think, I've just always been here (from the start), long before I started posting and long before I started voting..., I just found it was the best place to view great videos.
Then I slowly advanced to voting, then, commenting, then eventualy I started sifting...
Cheers!
