Should Amazon Items on Posts Be Visible to Charter Members?
We just unveiled a new feature that allows Silver members and up to associate an Amazon.com item with a post (including videos, Sift Talk posts, blogs, and polls). These member contributions can also be voted on by other members and are displayed below the corresponding posts in order by most votes.
These item listings are a small way to help fund VideoSift because if you click through to Amazon and purchase the item, we will earn a small commission. But the items are also just great information, listing some useful and informative resources related to the post. This is very useful for posts about endless areas of interest.
So, what you Charter members have to ask yourselves is: Do you want to participate in this feature?
(Note: Since this poll is specifically targeting Charter members, only they are able to cast a vote on this poll.)
[edit]
I modified the "No" vote from "I paid my money and I don't want to see anything even remotely resembling advertising" to the above, so it doesn't seem like we're trying to influence your vote. (We're not. I just thought it was a succinct explanation. )

How bout giving us a simple yes or no choice? As it is now it sounds like you're either with us, or you're with the terrorist. I assume you want an honest response? That being said, I'm ok with just about anything that will keep the sift afloat.
Sure, anything that helps, how could we say no
I'm not sure about this. It's basically a user-chosen amazon ad, so meh. I'm gonna abstain for now.
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
There shouldn't be any stigma associated with a no vote. If it seems like the kind of thing that should be filtered for charters, please vote no.
absolutely
As stated here, I think this is a very useful feature that I don't want to miss out on because I am charter. Hence a resounding YES!
(But I'm with eric in thinking loaded statements in polls should be avoided.)
If possible I would rather see it as a per-user option.
Right now I'm ambivalent, because it's like cutting away the channels or commentary, so that's not something a charter shouldn't be able to have, and still it's an ad. So meh.
Most people will vote yes. When you give freedom a chance, it works. People want to help.
If it generates much needed revenue, then by all means.
Make it an option for Charter members. I probably will disable them in my account.

+1
Some will consider it useful, some will consider it a distraction, so make it an option.
Yes!
I'll vote yes, with an option to disable... so far, I like.
I don't know yet. Too soon to tell.
[edit]: this feature can be useful
*unamazon
Warning to rottenseed (who assigned an invalid product to this post) and all other members: Do not assign inappropriate products or your *amazon privileges will be stripped.
Removed all Amazon items from this post - unamazon requested by lucky760.
ok i think i should get a freebie on the one I put on dag's post too since it was before my warning. Also I think there should be a link that'll let anybody gold100 or above remove the amazon.
We considered that, but as long as people are adding valid products, there's no reason to allow anyone but admins that privilege.
Plus, you added that stupid item to dag's post and it has another valid item, so invoking unamazon would remove all of them. Thanks for adding to my workload. You always gotta go around poking everyone in the eye dontcha.
At least it was your eye.
I want mine to be hidden by default. Does that mean i should vote 'no'?
I dont mind these links, in fact I like them, but if anything, You could perhaps leave them optional for charters?
Voting for this poll ended with the majority of users voting Yes, they're not really ads, but useful, unobtrusive contributions from other members.
Due to demand by our Charter members, the Amazon item listings within posts can now be hidden by enabling the filter in the Charter section of your account preferences.
