Daddy tells her all 4 year olds turn Black

From Youtube: So my 3 year old daughter asked me why some of her barbie dolls were black and some were white. Jokingly, I replied that all little girls turn black on their 4th birthday (as her birthday was roughly a week away) and the reaction was worth recording...

I have a 3 y/o daughter and she gets upset like this if I just point at her or stick out my tongue. It's funny what will upset them at this age and what will not. One night when I was tucking her in, she starts talking about werewolves. I of course starting to tell her that werewolves are not real, and she actually got pissed at me. She says "DADDY! werewolves ARE real!" So I said "tonight you dream about unicorns, rainbows, and purple werewolves." She says "thank you daddy.....goodnite!" Now every night when I tuck her in, I have to include talking about "purple werewolves" or she gets upset. =)

^My apologies to any casual visitors to the site who might be offended by the "jokes" above. It is only a handful of folks who do stuff like that, and unless it is really egregiously awful, there is no mechanism to deal with it. There is a written policy that racist comments are grounds for banning. However, the site is also fiercely against censorship. So we are boxed into a corner.

If you are deeply offended, I urge you to contact the administrators of the site.

If you think it is funny or clever or just mildly annoying, then I am relieved.

I'm so confused now by the whole thing, I don't know what to think. I am sure that he loves his daughter. His original comment was just a silly joke -- he had no way of knowing she would react that way. See the purple werewolf story above. Filming the incident wasn't cool, but the rest of it actually didn't bother me that much. He seems a loving father and he knew his daughter well enough to get her smiling before teasing her one more time into a big pout.

I'm surprised only 2 people downvoted this video. It's a parent saying something stupid to his 4-year-old, then finding humor in something inappropriate.

I actually agree with both of you.

chilaxe, I agree--that's why I put the tag, "mean daddy" on this. I think it's so easy to tease little kids that it sometimes gets out of hand. I think her reaction would be the same if he'd told her that her hair would be green on her birthday.

bareboards2, I'm completely confused by this place and some of the humor that's found here. But, I fully agree with the admin's about freedom of expression.

The girl seems to have more trouble with the color itself than any connection to race. She liked the idea of being brown.

He probably could have gotten a similar reaction by telling her that her hair would turn black. The only reason we see something inappropriate in her response is because we're trained to look for it from people who use similar language to degrade others, something I see very little evidence of her intending.

And to be fair, he did reinforce the idea of loving people no matter what they look like and that color doesn't change who a person is.

This passes my personal "Is it still funny with racial roles reversed?" test.

It's like how the best SF almost never is about the SF, it's just a setting and makes the story more interesting.

This is funny because it's a true reaction, no matter what colour she starts out as.

Thank You, Payback. That's a good test.

The reason it wasn't downvoted more is that you have to be a bronze to vote down vids, methinks.
For me, it's not about the "black" thing at all. If he were to scare his daughter for fun in a different way, he'd still be sort of a bully. He thinks it's fun to scare a baby who has him (and Mom) as her only real friend. Sigh. Funny? She wasn't laughing.

Yes, it would be hilarious if it was the other way around and he punched her in the... WAIT!

She was laughing when she was going to be turning into chocolate. I get the feeling you underestimate her.

I haven't even watched "Mother defends dressing up toddler in whore clothes" or whatever that recent top 15 video was called. I find the whole Jon Benet Ramsay "lifestyle" to be retarded at best, and pedophiliac at worst.

This man is a billion times the parent those freaks in that "beauty pagent" community are.

While this might be construed as racist, I do think that the little girl would be equally upset if she were told that her hair is going to turn green when she's four. My biggest concern with this is the quality of parenting. I don't think that teasing is cute--look at her face and get some empathy!

Xaielaosays...

You folks do realize she thought he meant she would become black like when it's dark, not black person black. In fact when he said she'd turn like M&M brown she though that was a rather cool idea lol. Nothing really racist about it and as usual, the 4 year old has no concept that people with different color skin are different in any way.

On a personal note when I was a little older than this kid and saw a black and white woman holding hands and asked my mother what color their kids would be and she told me 'polka-dot'. She's not a very racist person, she probably just though it was funny. Me, I believed her until I grew a little older and realized she was full of it.

I was prepared to hate this as another parent being mean to their kid for shits and giggles, but really he's just ribbing her, and the whole thing about her not liking 'black black' vs chocolate is funny, and demonstrates it as being harmless and in no way racist.

Yeah, believe me--if I thought there was racism involved the title would have been much different.
