Guy gets shot by cops during a riot at LA Art-Walk 7/12/2012

holymackerel013 says...

Beanbag rounds are a "less than lethal" option for law enforcement. Most policemen don't like shooting and killing people. There are cases like when a person gets extremely drunk or high and begins running around with a knife. At some point they might lunge at a person or the police, forcing the lawman to shoot. Cases like that are why beanbag rounds were invented. They are NOT meant for crowd control! I am a psych tech and worked with a patient who had been shot by one. He was involved in a standoff with police. He was holding a knife and threatening to kill himself. after negotiations failed, they shot him with the beanbag and he instantly dropped the knife and complied. The round shattered his kneecap & the tissue around his knee was black and purple. Those rounds are no joke!

Professor Tolkien would not approve. Ian obviously feels threatened by Gods judgement on his lifestyle, and well he should be, but to boast about defacing the bible on television takes it to a whole other level of criminality and rebellion. All I have to say is that you reap what you sow.

"gods judgement?" You mean mans judgement. It is clear beyond doubt that the bible was man made and the "morals" contained in it have, for the most part, been disgarded as bronze age fear mongering and control. However, if you still believe in stoning for adultery, working on the sabbath, females not being virgins on their wedding night, cursing your parents, "honour" killings, etc, etc, etc, then go live in a country that still practices such barbarity. This is 2012CE not 12CE, and the morals we adhere to now are the product of concensus, debate and intellectual discourse. Of course they will change as we change, it's called evolving, you might enjoy giving it a try.

Also, ironically, it is true that Tolkien & Lewis were indeed great friends as well as Christians; however, Tolkien used to give his friend quite a bit of crap about Lewis incorporating so many ideas/stories from the Bible into his own fantasy writings.

What?....Gandalf is...GAY!? OH NO...why did nobody ever tell me! I guess I'm not allowed to watch my favourite movies & I've been so excited about the upcoming Hobbit movies. Why God? Why does he have to be gay?

UC Davis Chancellor walks to her car during silent protest

I'm glad the one reporter asked the question about her feeling threatened, but the reporters asking various other questions were working hard at ruining the vibe there. That was a truly impressive protest. It had much more of an impact than a protest full of shouting or slogan chanting.

That music almost drove me to madness. If this is truly done freehand, without any tricks, then I think this is wicked cool, but.....please, dear sweet baby jesus, I never ever want to hear that piece of music again!!!

Alpine Coaster in Mieders, Austria (with no brakes!!)

holymackerel013 says...

I take my family up to Big Bear CA in the summer months at least once a year. There is an alpine sled that comes down a ski slope there. It's probably only about 200-300 yards long and it simply zip-zags down the hillside.....that's what I was imagining in my mind before I watched the video. HOLY MACKEREL!!! This thing is awesome. My little daughters love that alpine sled in Big Bear, but this coaster is a another beast entirely. It looks like so much fun; however, I don't think there is any chance at all that I would go down that thing without applying the breaks.
