I say it's better safe to give a vote than to take one away...Plus by now these are all archived crap...nobody cares if it has 200 votes with 50 of them being revotes...obviously people either didn't remember voting for it before or just really loved the video. I'd say 90% of the time I don't remember so I just upvote it instinctually, 5% of the time I'm unsure if I did or not, so I give it an upvote because it's better than reclaiming if I hadn't upvoted and 5% of the time I'm sure I've seen the video here and loved it but I can't help but click that upvote. Let's face it, it doesn't matter at this point.

You can't do it to your own video...lucky made it so that the person who posted the video automatically gets 1 vote assigned to them...so IN YO FACE!!!

To be perfectly honest in most cases I can never remember if I voted for the video or just saw it somewhere else and thought it was awesome.

In a bit more seriousness, I think you could make a little + sign beside the voting box, which would trigger the reclaimvote when it's applicable. I've gone "did I forget to upvote this?" and upvoted when I see something I'm pretty sure I've seen before. The "console" reclaimvote is just too much work... writing is haard.

Honestly, reclaimvote is kinda clunky, so if it's a video I really like I'll go ahead and vote for it again, otherwise I just leave it alone.

I cant stand the idea of having a comment thread filled with *reclaime, and siftbots acknowledgment of it. If the invocation was hidden, like amazons invocation, I would use it. Im sorry, but I'd rather double vote than clog up the comment thread.

Ok so now the three reasons for upvoting instead of reclaimvote are:
-laziness
-enthusiasm for a video
-clutter control

Reasons for using reclaimvote:
-Don't do it

In all fairness I've been trying to come up with reasons upvoting would hurt the sift. The only thing I can come up with is if I upvote a pqueued video I had already voted up. That might send it to the first page without earning an actual 10 unique votes.

It's a hard one for me because I lurked for a fairly long time before joining the sift... so there are definitely much older videos which I can't remember if I voted for or not...

If I may presume to expound on Dag's statement, I believe he's referring to what rottenseed originally said in this post, that he intentionally adds a second vote to videos he knows he already voted on.

If you don't recall voting, it should be acceptable for you to go ahead and cast your vote, however if you're certain that you did vote, please do not intentionally cast another. It makes siftbot angry, and you wouldn't like him when he's angry. (The last time he got angry we had the Siftpocalypse of 3/11 that caused this whole problem in the first place.)

Second chance at upvotes is what caused the whole mess to begin with. Siftbot was out of ideas on trying to get this vid to the top 15.

But it is hidden. All comments containing only "*reclaimvote" and also siftbot's replies to these comments are purged from the system every once in a while. I don't see the problem of them clogging there for only a couple of hours.
