At an event on Thursday, President Zelensky of Ukraine spoke about the bilateral security agreement between the United States and Ukraine.
Let’s hope we keep our word better this time, as this is the second security agreement we’ve signed with Ukraine, the first being the 1994 trilateral nuclear non proliferation agreement
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum In this treaty we AND RUSSIA agreed (among other things like removing barriers to the satellite countries joining the Western nations in unions like the EU and NATO) to secure Ukraine’s borders from incursion in return for their voluntarily surrendering all of the nuclear weapons left in the country by the crumbling USSR.
WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY FAILED TO LIVE UP TO OUR RESPONSIBILITY IN THAT TREATY.
Let’s hope future leaders honor this one.
