Track Renewal Train

the P811-S Track Renewal Train replaces the wooden blocks that anchor the rail while the machine itself is still running on the same existing track. It's like changing your socks while keeping on your shoes. [presurfer.com]

YES. I was wondering when I would see something like this here The second train is a ballast cleaner for getting the muck out of the ballast (all the rock under the track) and the third is a tamper for settling the ballast. Without these steps the ties could shift around with the weight of trains passing over them (bad).

More stuff like this for your viewing pleasure.

Yes I am a train geek at times.

These P&T tamping machines (4:04 onwards) are fierce. They mostly use the P&T Unimat 09-16/4S over here and you can feel the ground shaking for several hundreds of meters.

Two years ago, they had a train around that renewed two tracks simultaneously, both rails and railway sleepers. Huge fucking thing. Attracted quite a crowd, too, even though they only used it at night to minimize downtime.

This is the requirement for high speed rails. The tolerance is very small @ high speeds, so a hammer and a driving screw won't cut it. High speed rails are very effective and pleasant over short distances. California and the North East corridor are both investing in HSR.
