Wow... I'm genuinely surprised...

I guess I really just didn't want to be disappointed by another razor-thin win which smacked of voting issues. The overwhelmingly large margin makes this one of the biggest popular vote wins in recent history.

Trying to keep my thoughts positive, but I can't help but hope that this is the last I will ever hear about some whacko named Palin.

Faith in US Population: Restored.

An African-American named Barack Hussein Obama was elected President of the United States. My faith in my country has been restored too. I've never been more proud of her.

Good luck to Obama. This presidency is going to be the toughest in the recent history of the United States.

I hope those Americans that have been so passionate about his candidacy follow through and hold him accountable for his platitudes of "change".

It's time to deliver.

Don't celebrate yet, Bush still has over 2 months to fuck shit up. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he fabricated some national emergency to declare martial law and prevent the next president from taking over.

Throbbinsays...

^ jimnms - Bush ain't gonna do that. This election was about more than race, more than party, more that a name. It was about Americans not accepting bullshit anymore...not accepting those kinds of underhanded tactics anymore.

McCain gave an excellent speech last night. I think if he had that kind of character throughout the campaign, the result could have been different. McCain regained some of the respect I used to have for him, before he went Rovian.

The point is McCain and Bush now understand that America doesn't want them anymore. They would be foolish to try to pull something at this point. Their lives would become endangered if they did try.

Holy crap that almost had me in tears.

Even though I'm in Australia, I've been following this really closely (as you would), but I missed this actual moment because it came SO MUCH FASTER than I ever thought it would. It was all 'exit polls', 'looks like he's going to win' etc. etc. Then I get a text message from my wife saying he's won... Amazing.

I did watch his acceptance live, and that was moving enough, but this amount of joy over the next president of the most powerful nation in the world.

What's not to be happy about.

Bloody hurray for America, Hurray for the world.

While this may be a short-term win in the foreign policy arena versus a McCain presidency, it is important to consider the long-term consequences of Obama's policies. Obama ran on a platform of larger government. If he holds true to his words, the scope and power of government will be widened.

It must not be forgotten that the terror and oppression experienced both around the world, and at home, at the hands of Bush was only possible to the extent that a larger and more powerful government allowed. With more power, comes more potential for abuse. Obama may be a short-term victory, but the larger government he will establish, if he fulfills his campaign promises, will serve to increase the power of his successors to an even greater degree than seen today.

The unfortunate part about all this is that Obama is a false prophet, there is so much hope being poured into him by people who have absolutely no understanding of our current economic situation, how we got here, what caused the previous depression to last so long, or what the least painful exit strategy really is. As the next eight years pass and things get remarkably worse, I really hope people get off the Republicrat see-saw. But they won't, the ignorant masses, who think the parties have substantive differences will conclude that the Republicans were right all along and go back to them, and so on and so forth.

Realistic outlook going forward from a brilliant Libertarian economist if you want to protect yourself.

Perhaps, but if anyone can now turn around and say, "alright - see this hole we're in? We have to fill it with some higher taxes" and do it in a way that doesn't incite bloody mutiny, it's Mr. Rhetoric. Fingers crossed they don't make it all go pants.

Also, I've tolerated a lot of stupid posts that don't add much comedy. Our Bill'O character is amusing. Our other gadfly-parody on the other hand is finally hitting the point of "screw, it hit ignore comments".

So when are you guys getting a "crying like a little girl with a skinned knee" support group together? You can braid each others hair and close your eyes really tight when you jerk each other off over how unfair a democratic election could possibly be...

Heres an interesting blog for those who have something against Obama

"This is the great thing about President Obama's "change." What he means by "change" is, of course, "power" - as in the phrase, "change the world." Everyone wants to change the world. That is, they want to exert personal influence on the world. That is, they want power. This will get them laid, or so they think. It's really not all that complicated."

I'm looking forward to Democrats taking a good healthy dose of Republican whining for 4-8 years. I can't wait for January!

No, I'm kidding. Although I didn't vote for him, I sincerely hope that Obama does well. But if he doesn't, I am going to whine like crazy out of pure spite and vindication.

P.S. This race finally convinced me to change parties. Thanks, McCain/Palin and Obama/Biden, for helping me to realize that I can stand neither major party.
