Guild wide boycott

citosays...

I understand the anger, I feel it also

the new diablo 3 you can't play it unless you are connected to the internet 24/7, not even in single player mode.

That's why I will not be paying for that game and supporting that shit.

http://demonoid.me or http://www.kat.ph/

thankfully all draconian drm's have been broken for example Assassin's creed 2 had the same drm requiring 24/7 internet to play, but it was broken in less than 1 week.

So I know me and thousands will be turning to piracy to play the game without draconian drm. Only the pirates get to play the fun game, while legit players get punished.

Hrm it's a bit of a shock to hear this, and I also agree that this anger is legitimate. If people really enjoy the game they'll play online on BNet, Blizzard needs to just focus on making the game attractive enough so that people will want to play with others instead of forcing people into it. Also, money for items, very sad day indeed.

braindonutsays...

Entirely illegitimate anger. But extremely amusing.

Except maybe that WoW sucks now. But that's not because of balance or anything - it's just... well, it's SO OLD. There's only so much you can do to keep it fresh...

Good for Blizzard with the DRM. And good for them with the auction house.

1. that guy is still gonna buy and play the game, and so will you
2. i don't think he will be able to play it on his net book
3. he will probably also buy and sell items for real money
4. always on drm, he is not gonna notice it, like everybody else
5. in about a week he is gonna forget about it and rage about something else equally unimportant, like design changes to pez dispensers.

sme4rsays...

Any design changes to a pez container will benefit him, as they would most likely be easier to get out.>> ^zeoverlord:

Just because your magic 8-ball told you that doesn't make it true. Believe it or not, for some people, requiring an internet connection is a deal-breaker. Some people are often in situations where they don't have a reliable internet connection. But don't let reality stop you from claiming to know what other people will do.

sme4rsays...

First off, who is this directed at? ponceleon?

Secondly, shut up, as it is totally true that he is "online" constantly, and he will buy the game regardless of it's Internet based requirements.

Lastly, don't question magic 8-balls.>> ^Bhruic:

He makes good points. But, my point is, is that this guy is the most common denominator Blizzard fan. It's funny that he dislikes Cataclysm so much but still has a trove of WoW posters including a Cata poster on his wall, haha SHEESH!

Blizzard, I think I'll get a "copy" that doesnt have the DRM. TYVM.

Getting it without DRM doesn't mean you'll be able to play without a server. It will literally lack the ability to choose an offline playing mode.

Also, *parody

MilkmanDansays...

Depending on how much of the actual game (ie. random map generation, creature AI, damage/hit calculations, etc.) takes place server-side instead of on the local PC, it could take a while before a pirate DRM-free version becomes available.

If it works essentially like a not-so Massive MMO with everything happening server-side (which sounds quite possible considering the real-money market for items) there will still eventually be server emulators. I'd say that represents the upper limit to the span of time it will take for a non-battle.net variant.

I'm rather annoyed by this crap myself. I realize that there are a whole lot of people out there who just buy and play games, and don't spend any time raging against DRM (or even know what DRM is). Blizzard is going to be just fine by selling to those folks. But I think that there comes a time when the DRM is just too invasive for the average consumer to ignore anymore. It is flawed by design, and it eventually catches up and causes more loss than profit.

That time has come for a few properties / companies already. I just hope it happens on a larger scale soon so we can start moving away from this DRM system of desperately trying to cram the cat back into the bag.

I watched some of this guy's Starcraft 2 games and oddly enough this guy is the funniest lisped loser I've ever heard. I mean he is actually pretty funny, typing comments to his opponent and getting all wacky, haha! It's funny because usually no one says a damn thing in SC2 - but this guy is writing "HOW DID YOU DO THAAAATT?!?!" multiple times which is pretty damn funny.

Bhruicsays...

Don't be stupid. He didn't say "he" would, he said everyone saying this is a problem would still buy the game because it's not a real problem. Which is just patently untrue. There are numerous people for whom this is a significant problem, who almost certainly won't be buying the game.

Chaucersays...

It'll have a single mode play mode. This will allow somebody to figure out how to play the single player mode without the DRM. When that version comes out, i'll pick up a copy. I wont be able to go online and play but I wont shed any tears over that.

Also, parody

RFlaggsays...

Based on other videos of his I've seen before, yes, parody and people are taking him way too serious. Of course he is going to buy it and play it. He normally points out the issue then goes "What am I supposed to do..." and gives the solution to the problem, pointing out people are over reacting. He seemed to have missed that part in this "rant" but he was still in character.
The requirement for an Internet connection while playing single player is an issue for those who don't have reliable Internet connections. Steam requires an Internet connection as well, but at least it will still work offline. What if you do play on your laptop and you are at a location that doesn't have WiFi? No Diablo 3 for you then. There seems to be little reason not to just sync once a connection is available and still allow offline play. Yes, most of us will still buy it, but I don't like being limited that way. Now I am guessing the license follows the user, not the PC, like WoW, so while it does in theory limit my portable options, for the most part I probably won't care.
The bigger issue I have is the ability to buy things with real money. This gives an unfair advantage to those who have more money to burn. Of course WoW has a the same issue with people buying gold off the black market, but you have to step well outside the system and take huge risks doing so. Here it is now supported in game. The question of course is how many more people will use that method than would have had it been black market? Even I could buy stuff in WoW for cash I wouldn't, seems to ruin the game to me, but then I don't raid.

gwiz665says...

I wouldn't want it to be offline anyway. Starcraft 2 is a good example where it's much better that it's online, and I'm just fine with that. If all the crybabies aer going to boycott it, fine by me.

you guys do realize that this is a character he's doing right?
