I don't know David Pakman, but this analysis seems pretty reasonable. After all those conspiracy videos about Clinton with barely any evidence, I think this one has to be a fair submission!

This hypothesis seems more and more correct daily. It should be front and center in any argument against him, because it's a requirement for leadership and scars his hyper inflated ego. If he can't or won't read, we are at the mercy of Bannon and his other advisors, all of whom have been proven to be bold faced liars, and completely at the mercy of other leaders who can get him to sign anything by just lying about what he's signing.

I need to see him take a long form reading and comprehension test on unedited non-stop video, and pass it at a minimum high school level. Until then, I'll continue to think he's an illiterate, incompetent, treasonous, illegitimate president who is involved in a bloodless coup under the directions of Russia.

Don't suppose you can actually provide a reference beyond the website you copy/pasted it from... which of course... doesn't provide a reference.

As for Trump... blah... doesn't even surprise me anymore.

Good questions. I don't know too well what would be required for a bachelors in economics in 1968, or the grade required to achieve the most basic of passes. As noted in the video, he does seem to be able to read numbers well enough and perhaps that coupled with rudimentary english, a good dictionary/thesaurus and/or help from friends was enough?

Hopefully someone can comment on military literacy requirements in 68 and better my (educated) guess that it probably wasn't a high level requirement given education levels at the time.

Also, I don't think average literacy statistics are useful here. Is the president to be held to average standards?

How can this be? His daddy could have bought those 'degrees' and positions for him, simple.

It would seem he can read, but likely at best at a 3rd grade level. His tweets bear that out, replete with misspelled words, horrendous grammar, and never words or concepts above 3rd grade comprehension levels.

Please site your reference for this data, as it seems unlikely to be correct....at least I hope it's not. The NASA stat in particular is almost certainly false....I've known many (my uncle ran the moon rock program for a while) and I've never met one with reading issues of any kind. Dyslexia is a disqualifying disability in aerospace...mix up one value and things go bad fast and hard.

We can discuss this without being abrasive! Yeah the information does need a source but bob tried to engage, gave some ground and offered some back and I definitely respect that.

Again, i don't think the president should be measured by any average standards, but that isn't actually written in law.

Was Trump's dad rich back then? That could explain the degree, standards were very different in 68 as was economics. But then again, he could have passed it on his own, we haven't proven anything.

Seems it came from here http://www.statisticbrain.com/reading-statistics/ Who gathered it from here. http://www.readfaster.com/education_stats.asp and each statistic seems to come from its own source and they are using sources many dated to the 80s and 90s it seems.

I guess it's possible he lost his ability to read later in life. He's quite old, and possible has health issues with his eyes, or perhaps more seriously has had a few strokes which is not unusual for his age. And a stroke could have impaired his ability to read.

I hope we find out the truth one way or another, because this is scary.

Not sure about 1968, but these days, the only requirement is enough money. I don't know anything about his past, but I'm going to assume that he got his degree from one of those pay-your-way-through universities, where they just give the degree if you keep failing but paying enough.

Even at normal uni's this happens somehow too: I see thousands of rich international students get degrees at my uni each year, and there is no way they have passed anything given that they can't even speak the local language. They all seem to have really nice cars though....
But international students pay upfront, and pay many times the admission price of local students.

Trump could have payed someone else to do the course work, or even still bribed or blackmailed someone too I suppose. Everyone has a price, and most people have skeletons in the closet too.

I think he can read, he just can't comprehend at a high level... especially legal jargon stuff. I don't think he really CARES to comprehend higher level stuff because he has always had someone else to do it for him.

Although I definintely agree that the PUSA should be able to read and comprehend at a standard, if not high, level.

Double posting citing the entire previous post must carry the death penalty on the internet, AFAIK.

Of course he can read, he just doesn't have to, because he is rich (supposedly) and very, very suave (he imagines).

Trump misquotes his own book, which he did not write. This gets deeper and deeper.

asynchronicesays...

I think this is a tad bit overblown; I have to review agreements, (T&C/MSA/etc.) all the time and sometimes the wording is INTENTIONALLY vague and broad, and sometimes legal meanings of words and phrases are not the common definitions. It's why you have legal counsel.

I'm no fan of Trump, by any stretch, but a 70-year old dude who doesn't like to read fine print isn't terribly surprising to me.

newtboysays...

But a real estate mogul who NEVER reads rental agreements that he signs?
A businessman who NEVER reads contracts that he signs?
That's pretty abnormal.
After 50+ years of doing it, would would expect him (or anyone who can read) to have picked up the terminology, wouldn't you?

Now he's a president who probably doesn't read the laws, executive orders, and military orders he signs and has no experience at all dealing with any of them. Terrifying. If he's not prepared to read fine print, he absolutely should not be running a company, much less a country. Details matter, ignoring them in favor of his interpretation of a verbal summary (that he can't review or compare with other sources) puts his advisors in total control. No thanks!

Can he even read the constitution? How can he defend it if not? I need irrefutable proof to move on to his next disqualifying flaw, because to me this one trumps all others.

Just seems like Trump may be dyslexic, and I don't particularly find that a great reason to ridicule or belittle any person, especially someone who has been able to achieve so much.

I would think most of this regardless of whether he can read

the fact that people can get through life with other people not realizing that they can't read is pretty amazing
