After The Rapture (TheThinkingAtheist)

From uploader It happened before the expected time of 6pm, but Harold Camping's May 21, 2011 prediction has come true. Everything has changed. It is now a world without Christians.
Winstonfield_Pennypackersays...

Even the most basic, cursory study of the Bible debunked the pastor Rapture prediction. The scripture really is pretty specific on the issue of Christ's second coming in the sense that it gives no timeline for it. Quite to the contrary.

"Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh."
"The day of the Lord cometh as a thief in the night"
"But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father".
"Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not...Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold he is in the desert; go forth: behold he is in the secret chambers; believe it not."

Really not sure how the subject could be any more clear-cut, simple, and plain. Christ's second coming was talked about by Christ himself on many occasions, and has at least 4 different parables that discuss the topic directly. In every instance, Christ tells the faithful to always be watchful and dilligent because his coming would be unexpected. Any real believer knew instantly that this whole Rapture prediction was pure hooey because no man knows the day or hour. The attempte by atheists to try and make it sound like this guy represented "all" Christianity is specious. What small number of Christians actually got suckered by this bozo really need to go back & study what scripture actually says as opposed to how this guy was wresting it. Sad that some are deceived by such nakedly blatant hucksters. Really now seeing how ANYONE who has actually read the Bible could possibly be taken in by this.

Yea, he was tricky. All he says, I can come back any time, so just be ever vigilant for my return. It wasn't his fault that many people took that to mean he would come back within their lifetimes. Which is one explanation why it took so long to start cranking out books, because if judgment day is tomorrow, you're better off trying to save as many people as possible by direct preaching. Silly sand people, they had no idea he meant, oh, give it a few thousand years, I'm going to be a fairly weary zombie. Need to go up and get situated first, ya know how it is.

There's passages like -- "6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you."

So this 'You' will be alive when he comes back to bask in his glory in his holy place? Wonder how that person would ever get the mistaken impression that this would go down anytime in the next couple millennium. And what if his given testimony was contradictory and full of flaws, or he was simply a poor persuader? That listener is going to be tortured for eternity for having the ability to process logic! That hardly seems just to me.
Sorry if I don't believe in multidimensional space pixies until I see some evidence buddy.

There's numerous flaws in this crap.

1) "Only" 220 million Christians where apparently eligible, not billions.
2) Not all prisoners are Christian and I suspect those who quickly find God aren't the eligible sort, although I don't know.
3) Some important positions are taken up by Christians and bizarrely, some very intelligent people are Christians. There would at least be turmoil and a power vacuum.
4) The world would torn up by earthquakes and such like.
5) We'd all be dead by 21st October.

Not so wonderful.

This isn't the Thinking Atheist, this is the knee-jerk, unresearched atheist who isn't contributing anything to any debate (not that any Youtube video ever does even if they are well made).

Fact of the matter is, one of Gods two greatest commandments is to love your neighbor as yourself. If you're not following that, you are pretty much a Christian in name only. It says in the bible, if you hate your brother you cannot love God. So Christians do love atheists. The fact that some people who call themselves Christian act like this doesn't change that.

@xxovercastxx On the comments in that thread, yes I admit, was definitely showing my ass right there..pretty hypocritical and definitely not the love of God..I think that's when I first showed up and was a little ticked about the general attitude here (which obviously hasn't changed any) ..but since then I have labored to reduce my snarkyness and try to be more congenial.

I don't hate atheists, though, never have..if I did I would have to hate myself..because I grew up agnostic and was until a few years ago. I'd also have to hate my dad sister brother and some of the best friends ive ever had.

I think my main frustration is probably that I used to think like you do, see all of the same thought processes that I had, because like you I just didn't see it..I didn't see any spiritual reality, at all, thought religious people were nuts, and didn't buy any religious claims..

Now that I do see it..I just want reach out and slap you guys upside the head and say..wake up! what's wrong with you? Probably like you want to do with me..

Go figure, we can both pick pieced of the Bible that say entirely different things.

Either way it's a lame video trying to score cheap points on a collection of particularly ignorant folks, and instead needling the greater majority of Christians who are pretty decent folk. Doesn't deserve the high vote tally it has.

(And, btw, every non-serious, pro christian video ever made is chock full o' factual errors.)

Quboidsays...

And have you defended these pro-Christian videos as cartoon humour? Have you upvoted any? I doubt any have been on the Sift, but I strongly suspect you (and I) would laugh at them, not with them, and criticise them as evangelical nonsense.

I don't find this at all funny. I felt the joke (and I did realise it wasn't serious) was in how great the Rapture would actually be by removing these morons from our lives, but where's the humour in that if the picture it paints is as far removed from that reality as the whole Judgement Day thing is from our reality?

Wait, an atheist made this crap?

The premise of a rapture is that Christians are brought up to heaven, where they can do their favourite thing forever: praise the eternal dictator. The rest of us are left behind here to live out our lives. I wouldnt want any Christians dead, but if they went to live happier somewhere else, I wouldnt stop'em. Its seems that they view this life as a long guilt-trip anyway, and cant wait for the magic man to bring about the end of the world.

I for one, believe in a life before death.
