Do you celebrate your birthday?
I just wrote something in a message that dawned a question I had for others.
Do you celebrate your birthday ?
and Why do you celebrate your birthday?
seems like a no brainer to some people but not so much to some others.
** Oh, and if you do or others do for you, how is it done ? what do you do ? what happens ?
I do not know what channel to put this in so talks gets it.

No.
no cake, just loads of beer and recreational drugs
Not really, no.
Nope. I can get on board with Christmas, since it's once a year and the same time for everyone, but birthdays are a chore we don't need.
Yes! I celebrate my Birthday because I want to have a special day every year just for me. I always take a day off work and do something - it doesn't even have to cost a lot of money. I'd be happy just going to the beach for the day - just something different and memorable. I don't care about gifts and would actually prefer if I didn't get any. It's awkward opening gifts in front of people!

I always make a cake of some sort on my birthday. I don't decorate it or anything like that. Just a yummy cake. I might put candles on top of it, because fire. I also make the cake for immediate family member's birthday. My brother prefers pie, so he gets a coconut cream pie. Etc.
I would never consider it a chore to make a cake for someone I love. I really enjoy baking and that selfish satisfaction derived from watching someone eat it happily.
I always get this happy sense of fuck all on my birthday. Yay, birthdays!

I'm someone who has managed to forget their own birthday. I haven't had a party since I was 3 or 4 years old. It was never something anyone made a big deal of.
@gwiz665 did make me dinner this year though. He's a bigger sweetheart than he lets on.
I usually celebrate my birthday with a few friends, some good food and doing something enjoyable. Either cooking something a bit extravagant, or going out partying.
I'm turning 30 in a few weeks, and I'm having a party with a bunch of friends on the Saturday before my birthday, because it lines up with a party that we'll go to after a few hours of trashing my place.
And then, on my birthday, I've invited my closest friends to a dinner here at my place, just to mark the occasion and have some good company. And finally, on the request of my mom, I've invited the family over on the Sunday after.
They also "make" whoever has birthday at work wear a "crown". ( http://imgur.com/3hUkf don't I look pretty? )
I think birthday's are pretty commonly celebrated in Norway, especially for kids. They get less and less complex of course, but when you turn 18, 20, 25 or 30 people usually celebrate. And presents are a big part of birthdays here. I still buy my parents, siblings, and closest friends presents for their birthdays. Ranging from $40 - $100 depending on who it is, and what age they turned.
So yeah. That's birthdays for me.

And how would that be different from any other day?
I celebrate my birthday by going back into a vagina and coming out again over and over. Then there's cake.
Hopefully not the same one

Hells yeah! This year, my birthday was literally xmas in august. Cooked a massive turkey and ham, had a load of friends over, opened some really good wine and had a blast. (I should mention that it was winter here in the southern hemisphere).
I think birthdays are a damn fine idea. Personally, I can't abide the idea of not celebrating 'cos you're afraid of getting older. I say embrace your inner old man/woman. My beard is actually starting to go grey and the other day I literally told some kids to get off my lawn*, and it was awesome.
But even more important than my birthday, are other peoples birthdays. It's an opportunity to do something awesome for your spouse, family, friends, etc.
*They were kinda confused since they were in my driveway, but you gotta work with what you're given.
edit: I used "your" instead of "you're". I now hate myself.
My Birthday is a couple days into in January. There's never enough money left for the Birthday so it's pretty much a fizzle for me. I generally stopped counting when I hit 25. I wouldn't even know how old I was but Luckily I have kids to constantly remind me. (rolls eyes)
Incidentally, I did dedicate an International Day dedicated to ME as an event on Facebook this past summer - something I think I'll promote every year - because it was fun and people brought me coffee and donuts.
-People who know me on facebook can link to the event from my FB page.
Nope.

I dont like odd numbered comments.
Yes, I do.
Different relatives treat me to dinner. So the celebrations are not just confined to the actual day.
)(*#&% I knew someone would do that. Now we are at evens again. Stop the insanity. Even numbers only people. Comment in pairs from now on. You are making me twitch. h h h
This thread is now on the buddy system. Comment in pairs.
Usually with family, sometimes at work if they remember/know, sometimes with friends but usually belated, etc. I don't take days off from work and schools.
I don't celebrate it myself, but the missus always does a little something like dinner and sometimes (before we were parents) a small trip somewhere.
Other than that my parents send me a text and some years might offer to take me to dinner, but no one else ever knows it's my birthday and I have no interest in burdening them with that information.
I did used to look forward to it every year for most of my life, but for many years now I regard it as just another day. However, whenever anyone I know has a birthday, I do consider it a special day for them and I try to help make it more special if even in a tiny way. (That is unless they're the type to just shrug and say "whatever," in which case I make it a point to ignore them that day every year.)
Sometimes milestone birthdays ... other than that, no one [including myself] cares much =o/
What @kulpims said.
Issy and I usually go out to dinner on our birthdays. Sometimes we have friends over if it's convenient.
