Ron Paul debates Stephen Baldwin on Legalizing Marijuana

What the fuck gives Baldwin any authority on this subject? He's a bad actor and apparently a worse person. Even repeating the gateway fallacy as if it's a fact...
Hooray for Ron Paul giving rational arguments.

rougysays...

Any time I hear somebody say they're "faith based" I now equate that with "fundamentally stupid."

Every argument that Baldwin made has been discounted. It is not a gateway drug. It does not significantly impair people's coordination. Car accidents due to cannibis use do not skyrocket.

All he's saying is "I don't do it, so neither should you."

Stephen Baldwin vs. Ron Paul isn't that like setting a 8 year old with down syndrome against Randy "Macho Man" Savage?

"Ding Fries are done!" *Smack flies across the room* "OH YEA!!! Take that paper hat boy!"

Man I feel like I'm having deja vu of having deja vu .. glitch in the matrix? Who gives a FUCK what Baldwin has to say about this? Is CNN the Celebrity News Network? I'd like to pluck his beady eyes out of his head with a hot fondue fork .. save him from having to give that retarded blank stare.

Xaxsays...

I have noticed CNN become much more sensationalistic in the past year or two, and I no longer visit their site on a regular basis. When news organizations take their cues from Fox News, their credibility goes to shit.

OK, now I understand why people who watch TV hate Christianity.

I wish everyone (especially Baldwin) would completely dispense with labeling or categorizing themselves or their opponents, and simply discuss the actual positions, suppositions, and presuppositions at hand.

The only thing this snippet taught the average viewer is that "faith based conservatives" are idiots. Now, those labels and any viewpoints which may be associated thereto are considered 'debunked,' when nothing is further from the truth.

"Faith based" perspective??? Which faiths have officially said anything about marijuana (other then Rastafarian)?? I don't recall pot being discussed in the Bible...

It's often translated as "calamus," but one of the ingredients of the anointing oil in the Old Testament was "keneh-bos." It's speculated that this may have been the same thing as the "cannabis" used by Scythians in religious ceremonies.

So yes, it does seem to be in the Bible--as part of the Temple ceremonies.

Xaielaosays...

Isn't Steven Baldwin the 'Baldwin brother' who was a huge party boy who went into rehab for all kinds of drug abuse, got into accidents while being wasted on alchohol, etc, etc? Now he's a big reformed Christian with hardcore right-wing beliefs?

Yea.. thats rather ironic isn't it?

StukaFoxsays...

Ron Paul is like Pat Buchanan: he says one sane thing that makes you think, "Wow, that guy's got it together!", then he says something batshit insane, and makes you think, "..."

That said, this is one of his saner moments.

dirtythirtyixsays...

I love when people use the words "common sense" and "reality" in their arguments...it immediately invalidates everything they say, and I can just stop listening.

On the other hand, I loved Baldwin in Half Baked.

Marijuana prohibition has been a total failure and is perhaps this country's greatest mistake. Not only has it created criminals out of nearly a third of the country's populace, it costs our society billions of dollars every year, creates a strain on our prison system, and has little or no effect on marijuana use in the US. In some cases, prosecuting marijuana use has turned non-violent, middle class kids into violent and unpredictable, career criminals. Once a person has a criminal conviction on their record, they are far less likely to find a good job and become a useful member of society. Other countries with more liberal drug laws have much lower rates of drug addiction among their people. I can honestly say that when I first tried cigarettes, they were great. I liked their flavor and the coolness factor associated with holding one between my fingers.

But after smoking them for a few weeks, I found myself craving harder. Something with a bit more substance.

That's when I found heroin.

I don't know what it was, but I guess cigarettes were my gateway to sucking dick in an alley and killing my grandmother in order to steal her Social Security check. I just needed that next heroin fix so badly, I would do anything for it.

I wish things weren't such gateways to other things.

IMNSHO, the quickest way to legalization is to get a referendum on the California ballot, and then run an intelligent, well funded campaign. Once Cali legalizes weed, the rest of the nation will fall into line within a matter of years.

Is it a coincidence that the least successful Baldwin is the one who doesn't smoke reefer? I think not.

"theres lots of pain relieving practices ppl can study" yeah lets spend money to find an alternative pain reliever even though we already have a perfect one ...and meanwhile everyone can suffer..

Freedom of choice?! That's crazy talk! Who will pay for the schools and the police and the fire department!

Please tell me you're not serious. Go research libertarianism and discover the difference between duties related to the protection of rights (police, fire, military, courts, some roads) and services within an economy (educating, insuring, advising, managing, delivering goods, entertaining, operating on bodies, etc...). Yes, we should be free to choose any product or service we want. No, we should not be anarchists without specific and very limited powers granted to a federal government. Why the hell would you want the government to forcibly appropriate money from you for services you do not wish to partake in? Should people who never go to public schools pay taxes towards public schooling? Should people who prefer to save and invest their earnings themselves be forced to participate in SS and Medicare ponzi schemes?
