RIP-Robin Williams :(

I'm officially sick of sifting videos in memory of people who I never knew personally, wish I had, and touched me deeply with their work in their lives. As the universe would have it: This will be far from the last. :(

Evidently suicide, which makes this all the sadder.

He had checked himself into rehab (again) within the last month or two. I wouldn't be surprised if his suicide was the result of what was likely to have been yet another treatment round with antidepressants (of which suicide is a known side-effect).

Yeah, it is pretty sad... that some mourn for people who have more oppotunities than most, money, fame, talent and a legacy known around the world, but that isn't enough, or they can't handle it and decide that suicide is the way to go. Why don't you sift about the 20 or so military combat vets (not just US vets either) that commit suicide every day, men and women who decided that their day at work could mean dying for you, me, and a belief - you know, if you really are sick of sifting this kind of idolizing bullshit.

For fucks sake, a man who touched the lives of literally millions is dead. Who knows exactly why, it could've been Severe Depression, as has been currently stated, or maybe the pressure did get to him.

Either way, the world has lost something special. Get off your high horse, and show some fucking respect.

You make a fair point. I don't like the concept of celebrity at all, and despite him being an artist that has given me much inspiration, and was an entertainment fixture in my family's home since Mork and Mindy, it doesn't seem fair.
Likewise it's not fair to celebrate the deaths of thousands of 'combat vets' while ignoring the hundreds of thousands of civilians that have been murdered by their hands or the hands of those they profess to 'protect'.
It's all a matter of perspective.

Shame your "evidence" comes from a website that is a front for a law firm to sue pharmaceutical companies.

The reality is that the link between antidepressants and suicide is complex and not fully understood yet. For a start, antidepressants (by their very nature) are prescribed to people who have an increased risk, thus skewing the results. While there may be a link, there's also a serious issue of people who go off their meds having an increased risk.

So it's certainly not as black and white as you paint it.

Yes, unlike others on the sift, I post information that is supported by evidence

The link selected was for its clarity of description, not for its modus operandi, but, if you like, here's additional support for the non-dichotomous (not "black and white") assertion I've made (despite your suggestions to the contrary).

Simply put, suicidality is a side-effect of anti-depressants due, in part, to the increased energy or motivation that could arise as a result of the commencement of a round of SSRIs. Someone suffering from a severe depressive episode may, within a few weeks of commencing an SSRI, avail themselves to the means for suicide (in the absence of therapeutic interventions) which, in the weeks previous, might have seemed too difficult or like too much work to pull off.

As a psychologist and clinician myself, I am trained to work closely with individuals struggling with depressive episodes with an eye on this very issue. Sadly, for whatever reason, Robin's therapist(s) were unable to intervene as quickly as was necessary, speculating as I have, that a recent round with anti-depressants was at play.

There's a nasty type of irony to a person who thinks they are advancing humanity by being inhumane...

And just think, all those seconds wasted posting bitchy cunt comments, you could have been helping someone else, perhaps giving them a ride on your high horse... Given that roughly 150,000 people die globally every day, you don't really have time to waste if you're going to fret over them equally...

And it's finally reported, he was found with a belt around his neck, fully clothed, with the belt over a door. I'm just grateful to think Mork didn't go out in another unseemly act like Grasshopper (Carradine).
