Glass staircase not dress friendly (men don't agree)

CNN: For years, women across America have dealt with glass ceilings. But now, women in Ohio have a new problem - glass floors.

A $105 million courthouse opened in Franklin County, Ohio, on Monday, but the builders seemed to have forgotten one thing - the bottom of the stairs, reports affiliate 10TV. The staircase is made of glass.

I guess this time, it will be MEN who are bumping up against the GLASS CEILING...

For once, men will have to LOWER their eyes, instead of RAISING them......

And this time, men who work in glass COURT-houses shouldn't GROW BONES.........

I should be a producer for CNN.

what a stupid bitch .

1)unlikely stairs were designed to perv on women more just so they are light (visualy)

2) who gives a fuck juses Christ at best you would see a vagina most probably knickers obvously if sumone was filming with the intention of perving on people you would just ask them to leve the building.

3) If you use the building and its really an issue for you just get them to apply frosted tape to the glass parts problem solved , its not evan an issue I mean what a joke.

4) its only a problem if u worked there had a issue with it and they refused to compamise and put tape on it. evan then its small fish compared to the other retardation going on in courts and the legal system.

This is retarded. They have stairs like that on the Virginia Tech campus, and nobody has ever complained that I know of. The only way anybody would see more than just calf is if they were standing directly under the stairs, which would be obvious. Even if somebody was under the stairs they'd see no more than if the woman was wearing a bathing suit. And the problem is trivially fixed by placing a couple potted plants under the stairs so people can't walk under it. Why is this on the news?

I find it pretty offensive on alot of levels, The designers although short sighted did not design the stairs to look at your clunge... the fact she say "MEN designed it" is pretty sexist on her part nd the fact that theres a security guard at the bottom telling these women not to go up the stair due to the clothes they are wearing is sexualising it even more. To keep their modesty they have to use a lift or if they dont care and go up the stairs they come across as "I dont care I WANT them to look"

Stupid people, stupid stairs, stupid story

This is a huge to do about nothing. There's stairs like that all over the world. the difference here is that they lead right to the courtroom of a clearly assertive and stern, female, judge.

I'm offended when she assumes that men specifically designed it just to look up women's skirts. Perhaps, but fat chance. It's just more American paranoia about sex and litigation.

Big deal. Down vote.

She's got every right to complain.

I agree but I think she's got an attitude problem. She's a judge and this is her courthouse; you're telling me she doesn't have enough pull to have the stairs modified? For $50 plus a few hours labor this whole thing is fixed. Instead she gets CNN on the case. Sounds like she's more interesting in making an ordeal than solving the problem; excellent qualities for a judge, I might add.

She's got an attitude problem? She quotes the pushback she's gotten from talking to whoever is in charge of the building. "That they hope people will be mature? Um, that's not a solution." The attitude problem is from whoever won't spend the few hundred bucks to get the glass frosted.

Also, there is another set of stairs below, so you can't wall it off with plants. The plants would cost more than frosting the glass anyway.

To everybody who says this is a dumb story, I agree. Why isn't the building manager getting it fixed immediately? That may be a better story. Fucking government bureaucracy.

MarineGunrocksays...

This is fucking ridiculous. Like someone else said, put some plants under it. Also, there's stair cases all over the world with no backing and it's never been an issue. Title made it seem like the steps themselves were glass. THEN it MIGHT have been an issue.

I'm a little bit shocked a the misogyny going on here. She's got every right to complain. If there was a glass ceiling above the urinals, you better bet I'd complain.
Stop being assholes.

how is that Evan comparable ? there is a difference having something specifically designed to watch people piss than having something that accidentally would allow sum one to briefly see up sum-ones skirt if they really put effort into it.

And really by now toilets should be mixed i don,t see why its acceptable to have a bloke look at u dick and piss next to you but no have a woman do the same.

The juge makes out that all men are specifcaly going to go there to perv on women , and that it was designed by men for that the juge in manny ways is the sexist in this situation , making out that men r all perverts ( although granted she was making a piont about types of people in court and im sure the editing could have changed how the judje cam across , non the less she still hinting at men been perverts by defult)

In scotland men ware skirts with no underwear if i was waring a skirt and sumone looked at my penis i wouldn't have an issue with it its just a penis people need to grow the fuck up.

The fact the judge apreaches this with anger rather than a pragmatic humors / or emotional neutral approach shows she is a retard and probably not suitable as a judge.

Asmosays...

Any staircase where you can see people walking up it can be an opportunity for a bit of upskirt action, particularly for short mini's or A line skirts...

Just put an opaque overlay on the glass and be done with it, problems solved, no one offended.

Psychologicsays...

Put up a small sign... problem solved. The only way anyone could see up anyone's skirt would be to stand directly under the stairs looking up, visible to everyone else.

I like the design. They could fix it by having the stairs overlap more, restricting the upward view angle from beneath. It would let them keep the clear backing and lateral visibility without making people uncomfortable.

kingmobsays...

sigh lawyers

Is this REALLY what equates for NEWS these days?
The glass stairs were probably an 'our courthouse has transparency' type choice.

To be honest in my strongest moments of pervdom (puberty)
the one thing i could count on was that women literally wear next to nothing if it is really hot.
like i needed semi-glass stairs.

Shepppardsays...

I'm sorry, but if you're dumb enough to try and oogle ladies under the steps, or take videos of them at a court house, you deserve to be caught.

Honestly.

If you're not working, there's a 90% chance you're there for something you fucked up with, do you really think people in that situation are going to try and make matters worse by standing under the steps trying to catch a glimpse of your undies?

Or is the much more likely scenario going to be that they're worried and not focused on your snatch.

I'm more inclined to go with the latter.

and lastly.. How the fuck did this woman get to become a judge? Judges undergo training to make them impartial and unbiased, and one of the first things she lets slip is insanely sexist.

BURGNIELsays...

aS AN aRCHITECT, I can see the stairs are not properly designed. When we create a staircases with no risers there is always an "overlap" of treads to prevent this kind of thing. It seems to me based on this video that the overlap does not exist, thus making it easy to see a "higher angle" of view.
That, or it was some stupid interior designer playing architect and pretending to know what they were doing. The stair glass should be replaced at the cost of the designer or the authority that approved it.
The Judge should be brought into question for her sexist remarks and all of her cases reviewed for prejudice against males... or as she called it "half the population".
