Denver cops refuse mandatory Covid vaccinations

newtboysays...

Wtf!? Why give them until the end of September!? They should get until the end of business today. The delta variant is highly infectious and much more deadly than previous variants and they interact with dozens of people in close contact daily. Any public employee that interacts with the public should be required to be safe in every reasonable way possible.

So, 71% are about to be unemployed and lose their pensions!? Bullshit, they won’t follow through. Odd when the police want to defund themselves this way. Not surprised that those who enforce the rules declare they won’t follow the rules.

I have been a firemen 30 years. There is a wide variety of shots ya gotta take as a condition of employment. It’s never been an issue, until the moron trump came along. And now stupidity rules all.

They are waiting for the FDA to certify as something other than Emergency Use Authorization ("EUA")--Although they don't HAVE to wait for that; they could.

One thought? If you push the anti-vaxxer folks out of law enforcement--and this is just conjecture--I wonder if you would also be pushing out a certain proportion of folks with particular political and behavioral beliefs...

I was shocked to find out that likely 4/7 of the nurses at my wife’s work aren’t vaccinated. That’s insane. At least two are Q nutjobs, the other two Trumpists if not in the Q cult. Anecdotal, but it fits your hypothesis.

I hope that mandate comes soon, it’s just so dumb to have unsafe deniers working with the public, especially in health care.

The Emergency Use Authorization requires that people have the OPTION of taking it.

"FDA must ensure that recipients of the vaccine under an EUA are informed, to the extent practicable given the applicable circumstances, that FDA has authorized the emergency use of the vaccine, of the known and potential benefits and risks, the extent to which such benefits and risks are unknown, that they have the option to accept or refuse the vaccine, and of any available alternatives to the product."

They have every right to refuse the vaccine here…and their employer has every right to fire them.
It’s a requirement of employment, not an order from the state for every citizen…..yet. No one is being forced to take it, it’s a choice, choices have consequences.
Full FDA approval is coming soon, then it may be mandatory across the board.

I think it was end of Sept to be "fully vaccinated", which for the 2-shot vaccine that needs 4 weeks between + 2 weeks after 2nd dose to be considered fully vaccinated, that means they have to go get their first shot this week. (or next week for the one that needs 3 weeks between shots).

But yeah the EUA has legal wrinkle, anyone who gets fired for not taking Emergency Use vaccine could sue their employer for wrongful termination (may vary by state).

Only in “right to work” states where they have to give a reason why they fired you and only if they admit it’s because you won’t vaccinate, they could make up any reason… otherwise they’re just guessing it was because they didn’t vaccinate. You can’t sue over a guess.

Just as your right to swing your fist ends firmly at my nose, your right to be an idiotic anti science virus incubator and virulent disease vector ends firmly at your property line.

Isn’t it hilarious that right wingers want to use personal sovereignty, control and authority over your own body, as a shield from responsibility for their dangerous, deadly actions, but absolutely refuse it’s existence when it comes to women having authority over their own bodies, ie abortion/birth control.

was gonna post this...

...but thought it was appropriate in the discussion.

it's a public safety issue. easy to see if one looks at the actual reality of the situation.

Here are a few of the values listed in the Denver Police Department Operations Manual*...

- Integrity: Faithful performance of our duties and always doing the right thing for the right reason
- Accountability: Demonstrating responsibility in all activities
- Respect: Treating others as we would like to be treated
- Customer Service: Exceeding our customers’ expectations

... so if they ask employees in retail to wear masks, factory workers for drug tests, or a hairdresser to pass hygiene training - it's not a stretch to ask a cop to get a vaccine. their own handbook calls for getting vaccinated.

again, public safety.

Can y̲o̲u̲ respect that?
