I chuckled, but his fake Vietnamese accent was appallingly bad at times because it stumbled deep behind enemy lines into India. To his credit, though, it did sound authentic maybe twice, if I'm being generous.

What disturbs me about this video is the uptight audience. You're at a comedy club ffs, laugh!

At the end with the AIDS punchline, a few people laughed loudly. I'm pretty sure I'd be with them. It was a pretty goofy, yet funny act.

No TheFreak, it wasn't a well played move - it is his lack of understanding that looks like a well played move.

He still doesn't understand that what he said wasn't satire even though he intended it to be. It was just racism. That's the worst thing, he doesn't understand it.

It's like me, at a friend's mum's funeral, saying "well she said over my dead body, i didn't realise it'd come true!" It doesn't MATTER if i meant it as a joke, it doesn't MATTER that i didn't mean to offend people, that WOULD BE OFFENSIVE. However many times i protested that they misunderstood what i said, it doesn't make what i said any more of a joke, it was still just offensive.

What that shows is MY lack of understanding of a proper joke and how to deliver it so that it IS a joke.

And, in exactly the same way, what he's shown is that he doesn't understand satire or how to deliver it. That's the sad thing here - he still doesn't understand that what he said wasn't satire, it was just racism. Even IF he said it in a spirit of satire and wanted it to be satirical, it wasn't. It doesn't matter how you intend to say something - that will only mitigate the responsibility very slightly. It matters how people take what you said.

That's why people fined for racist slurs aren't let of the hook for saying "well, i meant it as a joke. you just took it the wrong way." That's not how it works, and i hope he learns that before he walks into a situation like this in real life and ends up getting hurt.

Just remember, it's not WHAT you say, it's how you say it. You take a word or a phrase and transpose it into different situations and it has different meanings. If you said what he said at the million-man march, it'd be racist and you'd likely get your arse kicked. If you said it in a standup routine it could be satirical and you'd get a laugh. If you take the word "black" and put it before an insult, it becomes racist. If you put it before the word "coffee", it's just a description.

I agree that AIDS jokes are highly offensive and I don't like that aspect of the video at all. But as far as taking it off... can't see your point there.
