What should I choose as a channel?
Thinking of a new channel, and these came to mind. Any suggestions?

Contrarian has my vote.
My advice is only pick one that you are willing to check every time you come to the Sift.
Make sure it's something you have an interest in. I know many people have fallen into the trap of picking something the Sift really needs but then it becomes burdensome as your interest in the subject matter wanes.
Just because it's a great idea and the Sift needs it doesn't mean it needs to be your channel.
Pick wisely.
Isn't "business" already covered sufficiently by the money channel?
I voted "detestable" -- I've got a feeling that would get a lot of use going into an election season.
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
I'm afraid it would get used synonymously with "terrible". >> ^NetRunner:

I would hope so! I would use the terrible channel we have now, except its owner wanted it to only be used on poorly done artistic content, not to denote that the actions in the video are detestable.
If we make the terrible channel mean anything terrible, then I'd go for contrarian.
I think business, detestable and contrarian are pretty much covered by money, terrible and controversy.
Black or biography would be interesting

Black is covered by equality, biography by history, purple by music, griot by cinema/books/bravo, etc.
Though I disagree about detestable and contrarian. Detestable would be overlapping with terrible if terrible's terrible definition didn't exclude the detestable.
Contrarian is worlds apart from controversy -- Controversy is "Newt's wife says he wanted an Open Marriage", while contrarian is "Actually, inflation would help the economy right now because it would reduce the real value of people's debts..." The former is controversial, but not contrarian, the latter is contrarian but not actually controversial (amongst economists, anyways).
It's a bit of a niche channel, but it's a niche Videosift's community likes to hang out in.
@NetRunner, good points

All of above.
Are you open to taking a channel over?
Maybe you could take over "FUTURE" and change the absolutely SHITTY description.
***-** - Yea hey, looks like "FEAR" is up for grabs to.
For business, I think it would focus on business models, strategy, organizations, office politics, and business processes rather than money and economics. So it would be slightly different than money.
I think the overlap of black and equality is minimal. Maybe calling it "Africana" would clarify things.
I think a few people highlighted the issues with Terrible. Maybe calling Detestable Asshole or jerk would help reduce confusion.
I think biography and history have the potential for overlap. But there are many individual stories that happened in the past that I would not necessarily call historical. And many modern biographies.
An *Africa channel might be good. As a broad regional channel like the *Asia channel.
Check this quality post xxovercastxx did as well:

*europe is still grossly absent

#terrible is Evil Dead, not The Holocaust. I'm disheartened that even the SiftLord isn't aware of this.
What about:
*working - workers and the work they do, labor struggles, working class heroes, job anecdotes, labor law and history, labor strikes and protests, sweatshops, ows, the 99% etc.
?
Some of that may fit under a "detestable" umbrella...>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:

I'd love to see a *working channel. It's both timely and timeless and it's a nice way to honor those who do most of the work in this society and constantly get shat upon by the powers that be.
Looks like there's an overwhelming choice, here.
Surprised that Purple is so popular.
I've been thinking we need a sad channel, but I'd hate to be the person responsible for maintaining it.
no NULL vote? pfft
How about a *channel channel? For thin stretches of water, supernatural mediums, that sort of thing.
No?
How about a *Russia channel? It would be full match well with the *EIA channel plus everyone could do their "In Russia BLANK BLANK's you!" joke all the time.

No?
We have #lies for that

Looks like one choice stands out. Please comment on my take on an *Africana channel:
Africana is:
-Culture, History, Politics, Philosophy, Technology, & News of Africa and her Diaspora
-about Northern and Sub-saharan Africans of all races, and diaspora members
-Geological and Geographic Africa
-Travel within Africa, or within diaspora communities
-Individual stories that speak to the unique cultural experience of Africans & diaspora members
Africana is not:
-Insulting animations or images of black people
-People behaving badly towards black people
-Any old video with a black person in it that does not speak to larger issues of culture, history,
etc (e.g., some black dude just washing his car)
-racist or disproven theories about black people
-Black sports, movie, or music stars, unless they have made a very significant social/cultural impact
-Videos whose central theme is race or racism, and not Africana as defined above
Voting for this poll ended with the majority of users voting Black --- history, culture, politics of Africa and her Diaspora.
