The new see-through airplane of the future

The airbus of the future. Totally fascinating, but I will believe only once I see it - in 40 years.

absolutely stupid idea. Sure it's fun to fantasize, but this has no grounds in reality. So the relaxation zone, is where there are seemingly no walls around you while you travel in an airplane, thousands of feet in the air? Not relaxing at all. And like Ponceleon said, where's the carry-on luggage?

Cool, but doesn't seem practical... for one, it appears that in the future people don't bring 20 carry-ons and fight for overhead compartment space.

That is what the teleporters are for? Unsafe for living things at the time obviously.

In the future because of security reasons everybody will have to be naked in order to board a plane.

I don't doubt that much of this tech will be available in 40 years, but will it be as cheap as simple metal alloys and plastic? No. Any commercial airliner will still be made of the cheapest materials that regulations will allow them to use.

The days of competition for the most comfortable planes are long gone, and will never return.

Shepppardsays...

Oh sure.

A plane that you can see though? Obviously men designed it.

I mean, now we're going to have to warn women boarding this plane wearing skirts that they're subject to being viewed by men on the ground with binoculars.

Did he say acupuncture? Don't tell me I have to wait 40 years to have needles stuck into my back to help me feel at ease during major turbulence and a rough landing. I wonder how many more flight attendants will have to be hired to reload all the needles.

The far fetched pipe dreams diminish the shine of the more realistic predictions in this video.

um um um also our airplane can perform brain surgery while you watch holographic martin lawrence movies and get a foot massage from your own personal cyborg and and and if u need to shit you can't because we forgot the bathrooms

Energy harvesting from a human body to "power the aircraft"? Human bodies produce such a miniscule amount of power compared to the engines.

A human body produces about 100W of power. Let's assume there are 200 people on this aircraft, and that you are harvesting half of the heat that a person puts out -- that's 10,000W.

777 Engines produce in the 25-36MW range. Let's take the lower value and account for two engines, and we have 50MW from the engines and 10KW from the passengers. Is it really worth the added complexity for an additional 0.02% increase in power? You'd have to consider how much weight such a system adds, as well.

I think the idea of smart fabrics that can harness body heat for low power electronics is really cool, but this seems like one of the worst possible applications.

can you still get a cold sandwich for $7, do they still have to walk it to you, or will it be "whisked on an underseat conveyor directly to your seat which also cooks the meal and chills the drink before it arrives at your seat"

They'll deploy it into your bio-system via a convenient rectal sandwich delivery port.>> ^deathcow:

this is some stupid shit waist of time and money.

I think air transport of the future is more likely to be huge zeplins that are solar powered and what have you , travel at around 120mph max but what they lose in speed they make up with decent sized rooms cheaper tickets and things like meeting rooms and bradband internet .

plans will probably still be used but they will be specifcaly for geting from a-to b really fast and so they will be optimized in that direction , but will also be one of the most expensive ways to travel due to fule costs.

Aren't the new F-35 jets going to have 360 degree vision for the pilots with cameras projecting the outside world onto the visor? It's not very hard to imagine really, a couple of camera's feeding a few dozen lcd screens on the roof of the plane. Could probably do it cheap enough with current technology.

I would pay extra for it
