Well, that might be true, but the margin is narrowing rather than widening. Some threads are already on College Humour level. Humorous misogyny is not far from racist gibberish really.

What particularly worries me is the huge amount of keyboard warriors who are prepared to violently verbally assault women, and the huge amount of people who upvote their comments to the top of the page.

Perhaps this is because of / the reason behind the lack of women here, and who can blame them.

I promote parties, and I have a rule: Make a party for girls, then boys will come too, and everyone will dance together and have a good time. Make the toilets nice, the cloakroom fast, the bar staff polite, the lighting soft.

Or, make a party for boys, and someone will smash up the toilets at 2am out of sexual frustration.

I don't think the sift has got agressive, I think some of the awful things posts (travesties injustices etc) have riled some peoples feelings, but everyone here is still huggy and nice to one another

I doubt we can do much about some of these types of comments. We all are to some extent closet misogynists, racists and biggots, we just don't flaunt it that much. Sometimes it's good to polarize people a bit, and a snide comment about how women ought to cook my damn dinner can get a cheap laugh any day. Hell, that's why most standup comics are successful. We just have to be careful that it doesn't catch on to bad, such that people think we're actually serious... about anything.

The fact is, people have to work on videosift to really be heard. So the quality of comments, I think, will always be better. Not to mention, with so many less people than say... Youtube, it's easier to call people out. Sure, trolls will always abound but who really cares what they say anyway.

I think theres much more fussin an a feudin between sifters. Though I think its also getting a bit namby-pamby lets all discuss our feelings. People are perhaps too quick to blame everthing on various "ism"s when someone says something someone else doesnt like.

I promoted this with the hopes that people would take a hint to stop using abusive language, even about complete strangers like Liz Trotta on FOX News. I didn't want it to turn into a chance for more name-calling. I also don't think that's what gwiz had in mind when he posted this.

Nonetheless, you took the opportunity to bash a few of our fellow sifters, and because no one here is beholden to my unexpressed wishes, I can't see why you in particular would feel compelled to act within my desired constraints. All the same, I felt it was only appropriate to remind you of one of your recent transgressions, thus placing you squarely among the ranks of those you have accused. And I belong in those ranks too. I've not used abusive verbiage recently, but I have done it before. The great majority of the time I try to play nice and crack a few jokes when I'm logged in, but I've also been a bad boy here and there throughout my history at the Sift.
