"What is your mother's name?" A question that made me sob...

My God. I had no idea this was going on in the world. I am heartbroken. Thank the goddess for teh intertubes -- let the light shine in these dark corners.

Yes, this is pretty messed up.
I understand not wanting to give out a maiden name over the internet, but first name?
Every one of these men bring shame on their mothers and their fathers for denying her, her name.

I was thinking it's likely many of these men don't even know their mother's name. It's never said out loud in their culture, how would they even know it if they weren't curious?
Sadly, I think there are many Americans that fall into that category, their mother is just named "mom" in their world, and that's her entire identity to them.

I thought that at first, until I listened to the entire video.

They are specific that it is "socially" that their mom's name is never used.

And of course, if they are young, they probably don't know their mom's name. That is true in our society, too.

I didn't think the two things were mutually exclusive, in fact I see them as reinforcing each other...because her name is never used in their culture, it's less likely they even know it than for Americans who also might not know their mother's actual name....although it's true at least the people at the end certainly did know their mother's names.

When my older son was a toddler he would call me by my first name, funny but slightly unnerving.

Its their culture, peer pressure. BTW they probably dont call each other motherf*cker or sonofab*tch habitually. Its amazing how often insults in any culture refer to mothers, appears to be a soft spot. If you listen to the video carefully they dont want to disclose their mothers name publicly so that she could not be shamed (insulted) by others. Not because they dont care, rather because they do care, they just live in a complex society.
