westysays...I hope this is how music is sold in the future guy performing selling music to people around him.
13757says...upvote for the final seconds showing the effect pedals.
solecistsays...that was actually really impressive.
ryminsays...wondering if this was shot on the new Canon 5D SRL. Amazing quality video. The music is great as well.
That1Swedesays...That's freakin' awesome.
BenyBensays...This is good!
11657says...Now, I really want to buy his Cd!!! He's really good!
griefer_queafersays...I could watch an entire feature about this guy. Totally fascinating sift. Upvote for the performance but also quality of video.
phelixiansays...That made me smile and be wildly impressed at once. Amazing.
moonsammysays...My wife was watching some of mtv's online video offerings, and when I compare what is showing up as popular on that site to things like this guy and Imogen Heap it makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with the world (or at least the US, but I assume the problem is more widespread). How can absolute talent voids like Britney Spears and her ilk warrant anything but derision when compared to actual musical ability and creativity?
mrk871says...This guy is amazing. I've seen him. He lives in Bristol in the UK but he's Australian originally
robbersdog49says...This guy's great. Very impressive.
Video and sound quality really good too!

Because talent isn't something that can be sold and marketed as well as sex appeal. Hope this guy goes far, he can beat box circles around most of what I've seen out there.
10874says..."How can absolute talent voids like Britney Spears and her ilk warrant anything but derision when compared to actual musical ability and creativity?"
Now, don't get me wrong here, but... Britney Spears and singers like her actually do have *real* talent. *NOT ALL OF THEM DO.* But some do, such as the ones that came from the Mickey Mouse Club like her and Christina Aguilera.
They have real singing talent.
However.
You are correct in that they are riding a corporate wave of success and that they do NOT write their own music.
They are corporate creations.
If you are not coming up with the MELODY in your music, you are not writing your own music.
That's the bottom line.
solventsays...Kerry King would beat this guy. Slayer rulez!!!
dagsays...Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
So good - I too hope this is the future of music.
MINKsays...question: how many musicians hope that the future of music is begging in the street and giving away video for free?
RhesusMonksays...I spent two years going to a drum n bass weekly in NYC (Konkrete Jungle) listening to some of the best MCs in the world. If this guy doesn't have a career in music, I'll have lost some of my faith in people's perception of art.
dannym3141says...This is brilliant.

burdturglersays...I enjoyed the hell out of this. All of it. Thanks for sharing it.
9364says...Absolutely fantastic, this is talent, this is real art. This is culture.
There are a handful of places in the US where you can experience this kind of natural creativity without the taint of corporate greed. Very few.
honkeytonk73says...some hope for music yet... too much formulaic mass produced studio-generated computer enhanced crap fills the airwaves these days.
BillOreillysays...mildly entertaining, lyrically atrocious
downvote
eltronsays...Just awesome! I love the beats! Great post/find!
12547says...Very good. Similarly, Howie Day is fantastic at looping his guitar work and vocals live.
spoco2says...Just awesome stuff. Not only some nice beat boxing, but then a great tune, great singing and great performance. A+ (Yes, I'm handing out report cards.)
FlowersInHisHairsays...The way the music is produced and constructed may be innovative, but the actual music he makes is pretty unoriginal. Maybe it's just not my style.
enemycombatantsays...Can anyone confirm or deny if those lyrics are original? It's always nice to see someone that can bbox and sing, let alone write.
Paybacksays...He should hook the electronics up to a DDR pad...

Hear, hear for Imogen Heap.
thehelixsays...Wow, that is impressive. It really sounds like that track was laid down in a studio, not just some vocal samples on the spot. Plus some skilled working of the pedals. It's a great idea, don't bother with any hardware, simply make the sounds you hear in your head.
Hive13says...What's this guy's name anyway? I'd love to dig up more of his work.
siftbotsays...Tags for this video have been changed from 'dub fx, beatbox, looping' to 'dub fx, beatbox, looping, ben dowden' - edited by djsunkid
djsunkidsays...Formant shifting! That's how he can get that insane sub-bass that sounds so good
cybrbeastsays...How can we be sure he didn't prerecord the effects and singing?

Dub FX is his artistic name
That Ben Dowden seems to be the video editor
boksinxsays...westy's comment FTW...that's the most coherent comment I read from him so far...scratch that... THAT is the only coherent comment from him evah...maybe my eyes are fooling me because of the psychedelic effect of that great music...
maatcsays...Reminds me of <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.kidbeyond.com/>Kid Beyond who appears in this clip as well: http://www.videosift.com/video/Portishead-Wandering-Stars-amazing-live-beatbox-looping
He has one clip where he explains the process.
Could have sworn that clip was already on here somewhere but I can´t find it.
Here is the YT link: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=HfBh3lZZi8Q

You see that giant box of pedals at his feet?
jonnysays...Ok, the guy is good, but why does some random dude on a corner hit #1, and Reggie Watts and Keller Williams can barely get out of the queue? I'll never understand the whims of VideoSift.

OK, let's see, there are quite a few Reggie Watts vids on here, including http://www.videosift.com/video/Reggie-Watts-Out-Of-Control-Stunning-No-Editing-Involved which has almost 100 votes, so it's not like he isn't appreciated here.
And I see Keller has one sift by... oh, you... and while he is entertaining enough and talented... it's not as stand outish as a guy using nothing but his voice and an effects box.
But then also, hmm, this is better, musically, to my ears, I just enjoy this tune over and above the skill of the looping etc... and it's out in the street, so you get that real feel of immediacy... and we haven't heard of him, so you have this unknown blowing us away. Just seeing someone of this talent busking is always amazing, and makes you want to upvote for
That's why it is the way it is, and I think the sift has voted well here... I have watched this song at least 4 or 5 times now, and I won't be watching either the Reggie or Keller ones again as they just don't catch me.
Memoraresays...>> ^jonny:

An even larger issue: with the internet and music creation technology and direct-to-listener performances the world is now awash with SO MANY really outstanding musical artists that they've become a dime a dozen.
jonnysays...heh heh, spoco - I was just rambling. There is the one Reggie vid with a lot of votes, but three others that died in the queue, and three hanging out in pqueues. Yes, the Keller Williams vid is mine, but I specifically didn't link it because I didn't want to seem like I was pimping my own vids. I wasn't saying this didn't deserve all the votes, just that I often can't figure out what makes the sift happy. Maybe I'll just have to go promote some of those Reggie Watts vids to see if I can find out.

I just received his CD in the mail today. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet because I have to leave for work, but it will be waiting at home for me... ;-)

eric3579says...t's possible to love someone
And not treat them in the way that you want
It's possible to see your eyes
Be the devil in disguise with another front
And, it's possible to change this world
Revolutionise the boys and girls
It's possible to educate
The next generation that will rule the world someday
The changing times of the 21st century
Means nothing to me cos I would rather be
At the beginning of time, earth would be mine
Living in luxury
Discovering a world out there
Believing in the sun earth water and air
Take me there so I could see the world bloom
Standing on a sea cliff howling at the moon
Creating a world for the open minded
A unique perception of truth inside it
I know we could find it
It's just a matter of where and when we collectively decide it
The world is not a vicious place
It's just the way we've been raised
Discovering time and space
I know that we could make a change
Rearrange the way that we appreciate the world today
It's possible to love someone..
Now as i start to put my mind into words
I stall I fall I'm loosing it all, my inhibitions
The thought of wasting a way
The fact that the music's at a place not far away
Yet I stray and stick to my world
In love with my life my beliefs and a girl
Is it luck that I love this crazy place, the human race?
Don't get me wrong I still think we could change
But this life and the fact that time exists
And were here and we don't come equipped with it all
Half the fun is learning and I'm having a ball
While the world keeps turning my role is small
But I'll make a change
I hope you're feeling the same way
I hope you're seeing what I say
It's possible to love someone..
In this concrete jungle we live
Our survival is love that we give
Now my instinct is guiding my way
It's true what they say
The world is your chance to create
