How Brown Delivers Express

Make sure you stuff extra foam peanuts when you ship stuff with UPS.

My friend Tim was a supervisor at UPS. He told me once that whenever he was having a bad day, he would just look for a few packages marked fragile and start throwing them at the wall.

Sounds like your friend Tim was a useless turd. Got his resume handy? I'd like to make sure his gets tossed if it ever comes through our office.

I ship my telescopes with "FRAGILE", "SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS", and "HIGH CLAIM ITEM" on them. They also go in plywood boxes and weigh > 80 lbs so that might assist in their safety. I have seen boot prints on the boxes.

Sorry, I can't give out his resume'. He works for the government now.

A while ago, I was expecting a package from UPS. I checked the tracking number at work, and it said it had been delivered. "Sweet," I think, and go about my day. When I get home a few hours later, there's no package to be found. I double check the tracking number, and sure enough, it says it was delivered that afternoon.

I call up my friend who works at UPS and has access to their computer system, and ask her to track it down for me. She says the system says that the package was delivered to the back door. WTF? I live in an apartment with one bedroom, and one door. She tells me to check my balcony, and sure enough, the box is sitting up there.

The driver had tossed the box ten feet up, over my balcony railing, leaving it at my "back door". Thankfully it was just a bunch of shirts, so nothing was harmed, but seriously, WTF?

I was reading this post and half expected to see my name at the bottom.
Got home one day and a FedEx label was in my door. "Drat, I missed them," I thought, expecting I'd have to drive across town to pick up my print server, but it said "delivered - balcony". I lived in a third floor apartment, and the package had been tossed from the stairwell, 10 feet up over the railing and onto the balcony.

I was flabbergasted, to the point where I took a few photos of the scene.

After reading all these posts I'm convinced that the next time the summer Olympic roll around, we should just field a bunch of UPS and FedEx guys for things like the discus, shot put, etc. Just have to put everything in brown boxes and tell them they'll get their wages docked if they can't deliver all their packages.

You should ship it with a proper warning

"This package contains Nitroglycerin: do not shake, will cause death"

"Scientific package. Very fragile. Biohazard. Do not shake. For the love of God, do not shake!"

"Fragile! Do not cover holes! Do not shake! Do not splash with water! Do not feed after midnight!"

You'd hope they'd get fired, but I'm starting to think this is policy.

I've been home and watched the same thing happen at least half a dozen times. I've called to complain every time, but it keeps happening.

The other option they seem to have is leaving a package leaning against the garage, so we can back over it with our car.

Dammit!!! I was thinking that the delivery man was going to ghost ride the whip or something and run around the driveway while the truck was still rolling, rolling, rolling down the street.

I am so disappointed in UPS!!!

Personally, if I lived in an apartment I'd rather them toss it up to my balcony than leave it at the front door...might as well hang a neon sign on it saying "steal me". At least it's an effort to actually get it to you.

I have the same problem when I ship my telescopes.

When I was in college both fedex and UPS would common put packages under your door mat to make them, I guess, less conspicuous. Except, they'd also do it for enormous packages. I had a dell computer shipped to me, which was like 3 a 3 foot square box. They left this $2000 package sitting there, with my tiny door mat perched on top. Nice.

This year, around xmas I had a lot of stuff shipped to me. Usually they leave stuff on my porch but they've gotten further and further away and have left several packages in my driveway, 10 feet or more from my door. Sometimes, in the rain.
