Electric violins are so cool. I once went to an irish concert that had a wide variety of bands playing both traditional and modern irish music and this one redhead (I'm a sucker for redheads,) comes out with an electric violin and a harp. At first she plays this lovely traditional harp song, was fantastic. Then she says 'I want to do something a bit more.. me.' She pulls out that electric violin and,

They were clearly playing the song. But it didn't 'sound' live so the video was likely masked by a pre-recording.

Still, they rocked. The drummer was indeed spot on and fantastic. Still thats easy to overdub and remix mistakes. It's why I always prefer live because you gotta actually have talent. It's why 90% of 'artists' today sounds like absolute fucking garbage live. Because the 'artists' have little real talent and what they have is mixed and dubbed and messed with the sound perfect.

Shit they don't even call them MUSICIANS anymore. Damn hippies grew up and screwed over the music industry. Its why I listen to mostly indie stuff these days.

Yeah I wont even listen to a recording of music. It has to come directly from an instrument acoustically. Anything that goes through digitization, radio waves, or magnetic format isn't really live. I mean, a recording is OK, but it has to have zero processing. It has to be a one take, no editing, no post-processing recording of a live performance. These girls are obviously hacks for wanting to share a video of themselves "playing". They should crawl back into their studio.

Maybe the lack mics on the drum kit tipped you off that it's not a live recording? Or the invisible bass instrument and extra violin tracks...who cares!?

Two facts remain:

1. This is a fucking awesome cover of a great song.
2. Those girls are hot as hell.

Fucking A, plus 1. Conceptually cool, but do it live! Also, do something more interesting some crappy SOAD song.

having played violin for 3 years growing up, I'm going to have to dispute all of the "it's not live" First, there are only 3 instruments played the whole time, a bass, a guitar and a drums. However BOTH the bass and guitar have a specific sound and style that only strings over a violin make. The change from note to note is much more fluid as on a guitar all you can do is pluck the strings with your fingers, on a violin, it's a constant flow as you run the bow across it. It seems pretty clear to me the blond girl is playing bass, and the dark haired one is playing the guitar. Hell, it even matches when they are playing, it's pretty simple to alter the sound of an ELECTRIC VIOLIN, just like it is to alter the sound of an electric guitar. This very clearly to me, is not only feasible, it is what actually happened. All three of them are talented. The whole video was neat at least to me because it shows how you could play the song with violins instead of a guitar, which in my opinion is much harder.

Pretty cool. But why do the pickups on electric violins suck so bad? Even on the professional ones. They give you no tonal qualities like an electric guitar, bass, or even a good pickup on an acoustic upright bass. Even Bobby Yang understands that and just mics the room when he plays a regular acoustic violin.
