Driver Beaten And Tazed As St Louis Police Shut Off Dashcam

8 officers beat, taze, and brutally repeatedly soccer kick the head of a suspect, then after about 2 minutes they realize they are filming themselves. Surprised, one yells to the others ""Hold up, everybody hold up, we are red right now, so if you guys are worried about the cameras just wait," then turns off the camera...then the beating resumes off camera. The suspect can also be heard yelling "I can't move" while 6-7 officers are on top of him, holding him in place, and screaming at him to turn over, and kicking-tazing him for not complying.

If they can 'hold up' to turn off the camera, that's proof positive they had control and didn't need to continue the assault, making them all a violent gang of armed thugs, not a police force anymore, no?

Why is there an 'on/off' button available to the officers the cameras are there (at least in part) to capture? That's like putting an on/off button on your security system outside your gate, so any burglar/rapist can turn it off before doing some crimes. WTF?!?

EDIT: From my understanding, after refusing to release the footage for nearly a year, this video was just released thanks to a lawsuit brought by the family. All 'charges' against the driver were dropped.

So... a large group of cops beats the crap out of a guy for no good reason, one of them turns a camera off.

Aaand it's just the guy who turned the camera off who gets disciplined?

Sagemindsays...

Brian Millikan, attorney for the St. Louis Police Officers Association, represented four officers during the internal investigation.

"The officers followed the use of force continuum," Millikan said. "They took the suspect into custody with the minimal force that was necessary that evening."

Praetorsays...

Manufactured a cause to pull a citizen out of his vehicle, acted like a pack of animals, tried to turn off the cameras, tried to hide the recording for over a year, dropped all charges because they were complete bullshit, tried to keep the family quiet, now making it go through the courts, "disciplined" the officer (what a joke), and won't comment.

Really reinforcing the public faith. Superb job.

Digitalfiendsays...

Turning the camera off made it seem like they knew the amount of force being used was excessive. With that said, if you read the news story from the link posted above, it did say the suspect had a loaded gun on his person. Considering that this vehicle matched the description of the one they were looking for AND this person resisted getting out of the vehicle (at least it seemed that way) AND the person had a gun, it's easy to see why the cops were being aggressive. I'm not saying it's right to kick an obviously restrained suspect in the head and body or turn off a camera that is there for the officers' protection as much as the public's. That's behavior is definitely questionable.

Looks like the cops went too far.

Yet all of this could have been prevented by simple compliance with a police officer's orders.

So if you reap the wind, expect the whirlwind.

newtboyjokingly says...

Is that what you tell victims?...'Looks like the violent thief went too far, yet all this could have been prevented by simple compliance with the intruders orders....so getting stabbed was YOUR fault, no point looking at or for the stabber.'

You'll just never accept that officers are to blame for anything, no matter how obvious their crime may be.

The saying as I've heard it is "Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind".
Cops are now reaping that whirlwind...and they don't like it....yet you claim it's the wind's fault.

No, I think you misread. What I read actually said he had a gun and 5 bullets, it never said the gun was loaded.
...and it was legal, that's why they dropped all charges.

Surrender yourself to the whim of a gang of thugs, or suffer the whim of a gang of thugs. Interesting proposal considering they clearly don't care about adhering to the law.

I affectionately refer to this pathetic excuse-making as 'the wife-beater'. Cos if she doesn't want to get savagely beaten, she should just do what i said, right?

Is there like a BDSM club for people experiencing extreme forms of PTSD and Stockholm syndrome to get tazed and beaten by off duty police officers? Nothing sexual, just good old street level police brutality. Maybe even accidentally shoot me.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised. From what I can see, law enforcement wants to transform all humans into supplicating and subservient profit cattle.

lantern53says...

Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind, that is correct.

I wonder how those cops decide who to pull over, considering they come into contact with hundreds of people driving by, walking by, etc.

But I suspect this video tells the WHOLE story, nothing else to know.

COPS ARE BAD! All cops are bullies!

But you lefties want more gov't, and this, in one sense, is more gov't. Cops are representatives of gov't. Are they perfect? No. But if you want to know what cops do, go down to your local police dept and ask for a ride-along, or attend the citizen academy.

Or you could ask to read the daily 'incident reports' and enjoy all the barking dog complaints, auto accident reports, theft offenses, heroin addicts with needles sticking out of their arms, domestic disputes, child abuses, white collar crime, illegal immigrant hit and runs with no insurance, prisoner transports, summonses served, etc.

Or you could just do what newtboy does...troll for 'bad cop' videos because it confirms your deepest prejudices.

newtboysays...

As usual, any sense of nuance is completely lost on you. Things are all black and white in your world, and blacks are all bad. I honestly can't understand how you survive with that mindset.

No, of course the video doesn't tell the whole story, they shut it off so we wouldn't know the whole story. That's the point. Duh.

All cops that beat up non-violent 'suspects' are bad. All cops that shoot unarmed, controlled civilians are bad. All cops that punt people in the head are bad. All cops that steal from victims are bad. All cops that lie or trick people are bad. All cops that hide their criminal activity, or that of other officers, are bad. If all cops do those things, then yes, all cops are bad. Are you now saying that's the case? You should know.

It's incredibly sad to me that so many like you have adopted the 'you're either (100%) with us or your (100%) against us' mindset. That's why anyone not goose stepping along with you must be a 'leftie', a dirty word in your mind. That's going to end up leaving you pretty lonely.

Um...so now you're whining about what being a cop entails?! Sorry, you actually have to do something for that paycheck. Jesus Christ!

Try thinking about what you whine about before writing it publicly...or you could just do what lantern53 does and snidely write a bunch of ridiculous whining BS, insults and lies over and over until everyone knows you're a troll.
Stop wasting our time. ;-)

Just reporting what you said repeatedly in the recent past. The race card is appropriate to play against people who bring up race all the time as an excuse to 'fear' or 'suspect' others.
Interesting that that's the only thing you disagree with.
No sir, you are the one who lives in the fantasy world where cops are never wrong, a tiny fantasy creation of a pathetically self serving mind. The world I live in is enormous and varied.
I offered to sift 'good cop' videos for you (that aren't BS PR stunts) if you can find them, long ago. Not one have you found.

lantern53said:

Playing the race card, again, you are truly pathetic. What a small world you live in.
