Derren Brown plays with Simon Pegg's mind

Raigensays...

The worst part of this video is that, I think the first time I saw it, about halfway through I starting thinking about a bicycle. Not that I wanted one, persay, but thinking about a bicycle was most vivid in my mind.

Very cool. I love mindfuck stuff like this. Awesome.

Though it was spoiled for me because I saw "bmx" in the tags and figured that's what was in the box. I'm going to remove that tag if no one minds. Thanks.

In his book Tricks of the Mind, Brown writes, "I am often dishonest in my techniques, but always honest about my dishonesty. As I say in each show, 'I mix magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship'. I happily admit cheating, as it's all part of the game. I hope some of the fun for the viewer comes from not knowing what's real and what isn't. I am an entertainer first and foremost, and I am careful not to cross any moral line that would take me into manipulating people's real-life decisions or belief systems."

I think you doubters just have too little belief in the power of the subconscious mind.

I've personally hypnotized people before and feel certain this was not only possible but happened exactly as we saw it. The mind is a very powerful thing, especially when used against other minds.

Damn Derren is good.

Lets hope he never writes speeches for anyone in politics or we'll all be screwed.

My favorite is when he gets people all flustered giving him directions while he's pumping them with suggestions and then pays for something with a stack of blank paper. Most people don't notice for 2-3 minutes.

It really doesn't help that the youtube thumbnail shows Derren and Simon shaking hands in front of a red bmx bike... I got to the end of the video and was sure that I knew it was a red bmx bike all along. Then I began to think that it must have been some crazy vision Derren had implanted when I couldn't find where in the video the bike was shown before he took it out of the package.

Then I remembered the thumbnail. Shouldn't be there if we want viewers to have the same experience as the guest.

I noticed the same thing. Fortunately, the actual small thumbnail image does not show the bike (so findthumb shouldn't be invoked) but the preview thumbnail in the video does show it, which sucks.

Xaxsays...

I saw the tag in advance, and I did not conjure up a bike in my mind. I find it hard to believe that's what actually happened here, but Pegg certainly seemed sincere about it. But I find it especially hard to believe that Pegg would still be so attached to the bike, even going so far as to completely forget what he had written on the paper.

grintersays...

The video editing kind of blew if for me. I saw that they were trying to emphasize the shoulder tapping, and started listening for words associated with those taps. I got that it was a bicycle, but was confused by the whole BM and Xbox thing... I wonder what would have happened if I were in there with the con man... probably would have ending up wanting a mountain bike. Of course, then I would have left the place feeling that I had betrayed my dear dear old bike at home : (
