cracanatasays...She seems bent on breaking the thing and in the same time don't want to loose grip of it. As a result. Crow goes sledging. There.
Really funny though

siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Wings) - requested by ant.
breaddoughrisingsays...I usually keep my crazy ideas to myself, but could it not be the bird is trying to increase exposed area of the roof towards the sun? The darker roof will absorb more solar radiation and become warm enough to melt the snow. He even takes his board with him, presumably to hasten another source. Where else is a bird supposed to find water in sub freezing temps? I tell you, these things are probably that smart.

Wow, That link has a lot of other links, alot of info and comments. I saw somebody thought these birds looked like a cousin to the crow.
Most people seemed to think it was definatley a Corvus, to me, These look like the same russian crows that were in the epic "Your text to link...http://videosift.com/video/Black-Cat-Vs-White-Cat" vid (great music).
I have a family of about 12 crows that live in my neighborhood, they have been here for years. They wait for me to come out because I often give them treats (peanuts, food scraps, they will eat anything).
This time of year (winter) they hangout with other local crow families. Right before dusk there are about 70 of them outside, just socializing with each other and watching everything , looking for food , or fun, they do like to fuck with the squirells.
They all have learned to crack peanuts, I gave the local family some peanuts and they loved them, now all the crows know how to crack'em open. They clearly can teach each other .
Throw a peanut to a pigeon or a seagull and they won't know what to do with it. Crack it for them and they will eat it. Crows will just figure things out on their own if you give them time.

Paybacksays...I understand that with some fairly minor surgery to their tounges, crows can be taught to mimic. They are also one of the only other animals than man who seem use tools. Such as using a stick to get at something in a hole.

I somehow thought that too until I saw ravens in person; they're freaking huge. Also apparently you can find pictures of everything on the internet. Crow vs Raven
As for what the video, I think that crow enjoys sledding. We wouldn't find it surprising if a dog was playing the same way, just adorable. Corvids seem to be just as intelligent.

deathcowsays...We see BIG ravens here, they can be mindblowing when they're up on the back of a pickup truck and you walk right past em, big suckers and smart as a whip.
The best ravens to hunt and eat are the mcdonalds parking lot ones, they taste delicious.

Thank you. I am still confused. Is it really called "sledging" rather than "sledding" in some places? When I hear "sledging," I think Gallagher:
ForgedRealitysays...It's a gray crow, also known as hooded crow. Not common in North America.
I doubt he's trying to break it. Crows are smart as hell, so why is it so hard to believe he might be trying to have some fun? He probably discovered it by accident. The point where it stops sliding, he's trying to make it keep going by tapping on the opposite side, not trying to break it.
