Crazy Police Chase in Los Angeles

LiveLeak: August 5, 2010 - A suspect who allegedly threatened police at the LAPD's Southwest station led officers on a chase through South Los Angeles speeding through traffic on neighborhood streets, driving on a sidewalk, and even hit another vehicle broad side. An officer involved in the chase crashed a patrol car into a tree.

Reminds me of ants attacking and attempting to dismantle a bug.

You would think that they would quickly call out keywords or something to tactically assign roles: someone takes care of crowd control, someone sees to the drivers/passengers of the other cars, a few to hold guns on the suspect, a few to yell at them and spray pepper/mace, someone to be ready with the restraints, etc.

i love how when he gives up they all start going crazy trying to get at him, even climbing up on the car just so they can get a punch in or pull his hair.

If the cops have the chase you, they're bringing and asswhooping with them.

Before I read the comments, I was thinking of posting something similar.. Only instead of a bug, it was a bunch of ants attacking a cracker. But then, this guy's no cracker.

I hope they threw a few unnecessary punches in for this guy. Some of the most reckless driving relative to the type of street it was being done on that I've ever seen. He could have easily struck a pedestrian or collided with an oncoming car head-on.

An extra tase or two wouldn't hurt either, imo.

rychansays...

Wow they finally taze him around 3:03 I think. That needed to happen much, much earlier. And I'm as annoyed as anyone when cops get all tazery, but this guy was a threat to people around him. His car was clearly being used as a weapon.

Reefiesays...

So after getting him out of the car how long would it really take to put the handcuffs on and put him in the back of a police car? I mean one or two punches to subdue an unruly fugitive might be understandable but they're making a barrier to prevent anyone seeing a 2-minute ass kicking. At least British police wait until dickheads like drunk drivers and car jackers are back in a cosy cell...

Looks there was few extracurricular hits in there. Not that I blame them, after who knows how many lives he endangered. He deserves a lot worse. Instead he'll get 3 hots and a cot and free cable tv for 2 years.

The guy might have been a total ass, but whats with the faggot police men swarming him after he peacefully exited the car and was hand cuffed? Jumping over the car and running around as if he might get away... everyone in this video should be shot for being to stupid to live. Ok I'm tired and I am being bitchy, but seriouse, its 20 against one.. and hes hand cuffed.. GTFO and raid the local dunken donuts.

So why are we still chasing people in high speed pursuits? Can't you just shoot them with some type of GPS tracker, wait till they get home or to a gas station, ect, and arrest them?

You assume he'll stay with the car when you write that.

GeeSussFreeKsays...

Good point, hadn't thought through all the logical possibilities. Even so, there has to be a high tech, less dangerous solution. I know that police are investing heavily in those remote operated drones. You could have them overhead and just silently follow them. You are right though, once it becomes common knowledge of a police tactic to place tracers on cars, people will just abandon them.

Sorry, but with this guy I'll give the cops the benefit of the doubt. It looked to me as though he was beginning to resist arrest after they pulled him out, and frankly, who knows what he was doing based on the footage. It's too far away and too undetailed. They didn't seem to do anything inappropriate, just maybe a bit excessive in number. If you're a police office and you've just been through all that, you're probably inclined to take every precaution, and I would think no one could fault you for that.

jmdsays...

Oops, forgot to add.. wheres the stun guns? The back doors were jammed so it was clear the guy was holing himself in the back seat for a while (looks like the back coushins got jammed into the back windshield too).. not sure why one of the 10 officers with a gun pointed at him didn't just whip out the tazer, stun his ass, and haul him out while his brain cells were try to reorganize themselves.

VoodooVsays...

That's exactly what I was thinking McBoink. They'll taze grandma, little Billy. and the uppity college student the instant they don't respect their authoritah, but it takes them THAT long to taze an actual real threat?

It still floors me that it's the year 2010 and we still don't have a device in every car that can remotely shut down a fleeing car and avoid all the damage caused by high speed chases.

That and it takes THAT many cops to take him down? There could have been half as many cops and it still would have been ridiculously embarassing.

jwraysays...

The U-turn was a dumb move. Breaking the back window was unnecessary because the side windows were already open so they could unlock it if he was barricading himself inside the car. The 20man dogpile was also unnecessary.

Were we watching the same video? Even when his car was trapped, he seemed VERY obstinate and not at all willing to give up. That guy was clinging to anything to keep from surrendering. Even when we saw the epic fro disappear, my assumption was that he was attempting to crawl under the other car (like that would help, HA!).

Let's see you try to handle that much adrenaline and not act that stupid.
