Caller To Limbaugh: You Invaded My Country. Go Back!

I am not sure whether to laugh or cry here..
ravermansays...

Is calling someone an 'Indian' as bad as the N word? A derogatory word used by the white colonists to label indigenous people.
Does this look like India? Do you think you're in India? no? Then you should probably stop using that word.

He really is kinda gay and out there. I actually like Limbaugh...I think he's hilarious at times and he's simply a very smart person and a good entertainer. Of course he's always wrong but that's not a real issue to me.

Ooooh, So thaaat explains it.

Yes it does...he's not a journalist anyways so no one should be concerned with what he says. I'm certainly not gonna care if he's racist or a bigot, I don't buy any of the products he advertises anyways so can't really boycott him.

Heh, I more meant. Explains how you can be a brash cocker about some issues..
But completely sensitive and reasonable about others. = P

Yeah...I believe I can do whatever the hell I want. I listen to Limbaugh occasionally but I don't check his work because he's pointless to try and check. I buy every Noam Chomsky book though and constantly check all his sources and where he's getting his information. Because he's worthwhile.

that caller is really weird...
indian that's anti-mexican..aren't mexicans are pretty much the same as indians?

i love how librush keep fishing for something to latch on. he's like one of those psychic scammers trying to do cold reading.

JiggaJonsonsays...

Regardless of what you think of the caller, it's amazing to watch Rush tell outright lies.

The man said plain and simple "I didn't vote," he even went on to express how he doesn't like the idea that Obama thinks he's helping "Americans" but he doesn't even know who Americans are by the caller's definition.
Then, winding down the interview Rush says "There's your average Obama voter"

I wonder if he really believes himself these days...

Winstonfield_Pennypackersays...

I didn't get the impression he was trying to say "He voted for Obama". It was more like, "This is the kind of guy that typifys Obama supporters"... And he's pretty much right. Bob the Kook believes a whole lot of total crap, and that's the mindset of a lot of Obama supporters.

When I see rabid Obama apologists in the news and media I see a lot of kooks. Kooks who think money just appears from "Obama's stash"... The kKooks at the OneNation rally... Biden, Pelosi, et al... Union kooks... Global Warming kooks... Anti-war kooks... Pro-WTC Mosque kooks... Kooks who think Obama is going to give them free doctors and kitchens... Reparations kooks. Anti Isreal kooks. And now this guy. Go down the line and the people who stick by Obama tend to be a parade of life's losers, conspiracy theorists, communists, anarchists, thugs, and goons who believe all the baloney Obama is slinging.

Not seeing how this is Limbaugh lying. He's showing one kook out of millions of kooks and saying, "Here are the people that support Obama. Take a good long steamy LOOK at 'em...!" And you have to say after hearing the call that, yeah, if you had to classify the guy then the only bin he fits in is "left wing Obama democrat" right with all the other kooks.

Paybacksays...

From what that QI episode was saying, humanity basically all started in what is now Europe anyway. I have read (fuck if I can remember where, so shut up) that even "First Nations" people walked over here across the Bearing Strait back when it was frozen over.

Ok... I've totally lost where I was going with this. Imma sit down now.

Where the fuck did you come up with that?

The way i've always heard it, Columbus set sail for India, but got stupidly lost and ended up in "The New World". When he landed, he met the natives and told the crew those must be Indians, because they're totally in India. The name just stuck.

I have no idea why you or anybody else considers it derogatory, to me it's just incorrect labeling. You can refer to them as Natives, but that technically doesn't make sense because as pointed out, they came to this land, just as the "White Man" did, at this point, they're no more "Native" then I am.

You could call them by their each individual tribe name, but that wouldn't be right either because every other race falls under an "Umbrella" term (I.e. White, asian, black, etc.) and that wouldn't.

So, tell me. What would you refer to them as?

Christ, I can't believe I just defended limbaugh.

I'm just wondering how this show does so well...

Probably a combination of market position and market demand. When the radio show began in the early 90s there was a total vaccuum of conservative commentary. The left wing dominated television commentary and the newspapers - and talk radio was a wasteland of local crap like "Cooking with Celeste", "Gardening with Bob" and similar blase' mediocrity.

So Rush comes on the scene as a conservative firebrand and it filled a huge market void. Most of the U.S. is conservative - not liberal. So conservative people were sick of hearing nothing but liberals talking at each other. Rush said the things they believed in and wanted to hear. Boom. Instant audience.

It established him as the first conservative talker in the market. That gives you brand awareness and top-of-mind. When people think 'conservative talk' they think "Rush Limbaugh".

@Shepppard good reply!

I'll put these out there:
1) If the term "Indian" has been used in the context of hunting down and killing or displacing native populations. I'd call it derogatory. As in "cowboys and indians" assuming the white cowboys are trying to kill the Indians.

2) Indians arrived from else where, but thousands of years earlier. As a people, do they have a a right to decide what they are called? or do they have to accept what the (new comer) white man mistakenly calls him because the white man is a superior race.

3) Following the logic. Then white US citizens are no more "native" than the Mexicans which are crossing the border. Like the white man they are also from else where, just arriving later. Call it illegal, but i'm sure by tribal standards the while colonists were also illegal immigrants taking resources that didn't belong to them.

4) Taking it even further, lets call all us citizens "gringos" since thats what the new immigrants have decided to call them and maybe the name will stick. What's wrong with that?
