Something Wicked this Way Comes

Just letting you know that VideoSift 3.0 is getting close! Lucky has been doing an amazing job on putting it together and the closed beta test will be happening soon. Experienced Sifters will be getting invites to help us work out the kinks and put a polish on it.

If you'd like to be part of the beta, and you've been around awhile - make sure that you have a real email address in your profile- and we'll contact you when we're ready.

Ok, I even put up a PUBLIC email. I guess I'm gonna try out the "full" sift experience with nagging emails about stuff and stuff. (Here I've been enjoying VS in the old fashioned way of html only. Now I can enhance my addiction with emails. What they need in 3.0 is a siftbot AIM bot that IM's me everytime I get an upvote on my video.)

Where is the sift-AIM-bot?

count me in, I'd like to get a head start on getting sick of all the new bells and whistles before classes start up again... after that, I have to behave myself and start spending time being a serious student again.

Deano, "Something wicked this way comes" is a phrase from a line in MacBeth, Act IV, Scene I, spoken by the second witch leading to the entrance of MacBeth:

"By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes.
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks!"

Oh, and I'm looking forward to VS 3.0. I've heard that this is going to be the greatest thing since Duke Nukem Forever!

Will ther beta rely on the new submission? Basically do we see the same videos and have the same datas between v2.5 and v3.0? I would like to peak at the v3.0 beta, but I need to be able to go back to v2.5 if problems or whatever.

ant,
clearly the both websites will be active at the same time, and if not pulling from the actual VS database, it will pull from a test database for the beta. Most likely there will be a different webpage like beta.videosift.com or videosift.com/testing/

So there is no "go back to". Worst case is you might have to create a new username at the beta site, but at some point they will migrate the whole database over to 3.0

And probably safe to assume any comments or videos added to the beta site may not be saved, but lucky would have to comment if he is using a live database, a small blank testing one, or a snapshot of the old vs dB.

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

The beta test will take a snap-shot of the current DB and put it in the new environment/ new server - then we will be free to play around. After we are ready to go live, any changes made in the beta environment will be wiped, and the current live VS DB will be imported again.
