Yeah I've helped ban about a dozen of these over the past few days.

If it's not bots it'll be a bunch of people in the same location being paid pennies to spam these videos everywhere.

newtboy says...

Yes please, banhammer these spammers, @lucky760
We're being overrun, I've also banned over a dozen in the last days.
You might make it impossible to post the words "full movie" in a description, but we need them ip banned permanently.

I usually cruise the recent comments and have noticed that the words “ban” and “spam” have been used very frequently recently. Tell Putin and the boys to ease up on the sift.

It might be time for captcha, since these seem to be bot posts. At least at sign up if not for all probationary level posters.
This business is getting out of control.

I like that suggestion.

Hmm, maybe but I am getting annoyed with captchas.

Yeah, but I'm getting really annoyed with spammers.

@dag, @lucky760, we really need a fix here. It's seeming like 1/2 the posts are full movie spam, suddenly. I think they're trying to wear us down until we give up banning them.

All the spammers use similar descriptions for videos. Maybe a word filter could be set up to auto-kill videos before they even show up.

Spent some time looking into this and it does appear to be actual human spammers creating these posts.

The thing they have in common, though, is that their IPs are India-based.

Is it time we just block submissions for probies from India (and maybe also China) IPs?

Well, it was just an idea.
Thanks for investigating.
I don't know, I would hate to just off hand exclude so many people like that. On the other hand, it's becoming a real issue and I don't see another obvious solution.
I guess it's not possible to auto block any post with the words "full movie" in the title or description? If they're really human posts, they would probably catch on quickly anyway, but it would be a start.

Seems reasonable as i assume after a period of time it can be removed to see if the problem still exists. The sooner the better (in hours hopefully, not days) as it's a daily annoyance that is frustrating to deal with. As is now half (my one page 12 of 30) the comments in the recent comment thread are bans. It doesn't make for a good experience when using it.

I've implemented a rudimentary CAPTCHA on the video submission page for probies and am also working on implementing a more sophisticated solution (specifically Recaptcha).

Still, I feel it's more likely human spammers who are spoofing their IPs rather than bots, but maybe it'll help!

ant says...

How about probies' submissions need to be reviewed by approved VS members?
