humans are a diverse bunch and we all do things according to our own preferences and while i know why i post to videosift,i have always been curious why YOU post.

so i decided to create a poll, that i hope you will participate in,by revealing why you post to our beloved videosift.what is your motivation to post a video? your intentions? what is the driving factor in posting material you have found on the internet.

speaking only for myself,i am a former lurker who realized that maybe i was not alone in my eclectic and oftentimes eccentric tastes.so i decided to start posting videos based on a long LONG list of content that ,though a tad obscure, may find an audience.

and lo and behold! it turned out i was not the only one with a propensity for oddness.

i have met some wonderful people who i admire and respect.my ideas and philosophies have been challenged to my delight and sometimes chagrin.my music and art library has grown due to so many here on the sift who have shared some amazing talent that i would have otherwise never been exposed to.

sifters who have taken the time to explain their views on politics or history that i would have never even considered.changing my outlook on a great many things.

in short:i am a different person who has grown because of people like YOU and i wish to let you know the breadth of my gratitude.
thank you all so much for just being you.you make this place what it is and what it will be.
stay awesome.

My category isn't there

I sift because I don't know why I sift.....Oh yeah, i remember now..
I just like to show people things they might not see though my eyes otherwise or know they were lied to about.

Given I've never really embraced anything "social" about the net and I increasingly find it pointless to comment in any blogs (because text seems to produce idiots) i'm really surprised I ever posted anything here.

I guess it's something about the simple and focused ethos of the founders and a genuinely welcoming community.

For me it's as simple as that. Later the sifting just felt natural and quite exciting to do.

BTW I used to be addicted to Reddit as a lurker. Now it just reminds me how easily people will descend into pointless arguments and downvoting (Reddit has become a great deal more popular over the last few years hasn't it).

So for me Videosift easily trumps reddit - ok there are no funny cat pictures but neither is there that sense of overweening self importance.

-The site attracts a nice variety of interesting individuals.
-The content is consistently high level.
-The site is well run, has a fun interface and is easy on the eyes.
-The relatively small population of the site helps to create a nice sense of community.
-I get into some good debates here.

When you see or hear something amazing it's natural to want to show it to someone - information sharing is built in to our DNA; but in real life constantly pestering your friends and family to listen to this song or watch this video is obnoxious.

The sift is a magical sanctuary where we can come to indulge that behaviour without pissing people off, where it's not only tolerated but encouraged. It's like a dream.
