Meh...just another monster flick with a huge FX budget and crappy story.

Stay home and play XBox, then.

Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, et al... I'll take my chances that this is gonna be yet another incredible movie from Ridley Scott. I don't go out to see a lot of movies nowadays, but once in a while one comes along that begs to be seen on the big screen. This ain't no "Transformers" or "Twilight" tripe. Can't wait to see it.

Beautiful indeed, but I have one serious gripe (with this and most Hollywood trailers): what's with revealing the whole story in the trailer? Can't they leave us a bit of mystery?

Yeah, the original teaser trailer was enough for me to get excited about it, almost regret watching this trailer... almost

Mazesays...

Totally agree. Really enjoyed this trailer until right near the end.. I'm a little stunned they revealed so much!>> ^hpqp:

Given how coy and secretive Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof were in the Q&A session yesterday regarding plot, I think there's plenty of surprises, twists and unexpected sub-plots waiting in the film.

Ok, here's the awful cliché I expect from this movie: a very emotional and amateur crew that, even though they're supposed to be hand picked and highly trained for the job, they'll obviously be more focused on freaking out, acting like passive aggressive teenagers, and yelling at each other instead of spotting the big alien and shooting it in the head

Deanosays...

A few observations

Not so sure about the ship design - doesn't seem to echo the hard sci-fi visions. I liked the Nostromo which was a floating refinery and obviously bloated, complex and required constant maintenance [edit - I know the landing ship isn't the same thing but it does look a bit too CGI and fantastic]

Added to that the upgrade in computer displays, not evident in Alien of course - maybe it's not directly a prequel, same universe and all that?

Idris Elba. Renowned for his excellent accent in The Wire. The one he's doing here sounds a bit less convincing.

That scene when they're asked "from whom?" And they look at each other. A bit cliched.

I think this has given up a fair bit of the film as trailers are wont to do. I'm sure the direction will be excellent but I'd caution against expecting greatness.

Reminds me of the trailer for 'Moon'... you come away with the feeling that you've basically watched the movie, but in that case the journey and the characters and the concept were so well done that the general plot twists were icing on the cake. Hopefully 'Prometheus' will be similar in that regard.

They discuss the "look" as compared to the Nostromo in the Q&A eric linked above. You can watch the replay anytime.

As far as this trailer giving up too much... I kinda thought so too. There's been so much secrecy surrounding this movies' plot since they decided not to make it another "Alien" movie (Scott addresses that in the Q&A as well). I was kinda wishing I hadn't seen the whole trailer. Then I thought, "awww, screw it", and watched it a few more times.

edit: can't spell

When I saw the first teaser I was absolutely thrilled. Now, after seeing the full trailer doubts begin to creep in.
I keep remembering that Ridley Scott not only directed Alien and Blade Runner, but also gave us Kingdom Of Heavens, Hannibal, 1492.....and G.I.Jane.

The other thing that does not sit right with this trailer is the old (and stupid) aliens inspired/founded/visited/created all the ancient civilizations on earthe story that
a) remind me too much of Alianes vs. Predators and
b) does simply not fit in with the tone of Alien/s/³/4.

I keep my fingers crossed for a great movie.

Hybridsays...

Indeed it is. It's known as the "Space Jockey". Everything is related >> ^MonkeySpank:

Anybody else thinks this is somehow related to the big cannon monster in the original Alien movie? The jury is still out, but I sure hope so.
Edit: Yes, it looks like it. Pause at 2:12-2:13 and you can see the same cannon guy. This is gonna be awesome!

swedishfriendsays...

I am shaking right now! It gives away the whole story arc (not many details so to speak) so don't watch it if that bothers you! If you knew anything about the film you probably didn't learn anything new other than the fact that it looks nothing like any of the teasers and that I never get excited from trailers. Normally that is...

jmdsays...

not to knock this awesome trailer, but how does this become top soft of the week? The phantom menace video and this one are pretty much the same age (and neither would have acrude enough votes on sat either).

Me thinks top sift of the week is chosen by one, not by the many.

Ripley77says...

To all who truly follow Ripley through her centuries long journey, prometheus, is were we find out how that ship got there and who sent the signal that interupted Ripleys return home.

dagsays...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)

You are right. I usually give it to the very top SFW video for the week. In this case, I gave this one a nudge because it was younger and had almost the same amount of votes and more comments.

To paraphrase Spock - the needs of me outweigh the needs of the many. ;-)

Nice choice dag. Next week we're thinking of throwing a red herring out there, maybe a video about spring break (whatever). Then we'll need you to get right back to our Summer lineup as we're trying to increase coverage on a few titles that are not getting the excitement we need in North America. Payment on Friday as usual.
