YT - "The National Security Agency is currently collecting the telephone records of millions of US customers of Verizon, one of America's largest telecoms providers, under a top secret court order issued in April.
The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries."*
We now know that the NSA has conducted mass surveillance on Verizon (and in all likelihood other telecommunication outlets) customers. This blanket spying was done indiscriminately, on American citizens. Certain politicians say it's great that this is happening, that they'll gladly be spied upon. Is this liberty? Does President Obama know the meaning of civil rights? Cenk Uygur breaks it down. /YT

chingalerasays...Last 10 or so presidents...interchangeable parts of an erector set of nefarious design. Voting is ineffectual and folks are too exhausted or brain-dead to revolt. Act of nature or alien invasion, only 2 events that will turn the police-planet around...or a plague-Problem with a plague is that it would most-likely be engineered by the same assholes.
radxsays...Yes we scan!
deathcowsays...Before you tell us how better your European country is, remember we are currently trying to purchase it.. with a Chinese mortgage.
radxsays...But my European country is better! All my internet activity is monitored by the NSA, GCHQ and our own national intelligence service.
Three for the price of one. Whoopee!
Before you tell us how better your European country is, remember we are currently trying to purchase it.. with a Chinese mortgage.
Babymechsays...Obama is the Chang I believe in.
dystopianfuturetodaysays...This isn't change at all. It's business as usual.
Here are the folks who've kept this legal: http://politics.nytimes.com/congress/votes/112/house/1/376

Yogisays...No, No no no no no. You are not going to sit there and tell me that Kennedy was a good guy. That murderous mother fucker who waged a Terrorist War on Cuba before the Cuban missile crisis. And is responsible for the genocidal chemical war against South Vietnam.
Not gonna happen, that man was a piece of shit, and he doesn't get any credit for saying anything progressive.
10? I think I know when and where things changed..

renatojjsays...Terrorists should stick to making Skype calls.
TheSluiceGatesays...... Except the US administration has a back-door in there now too, doesn't it?
Terrorists should stick to making Skype calls.
surfingytsays...So after decades of this they found all the terrorists and have stopped all the terrorism, right? Right?
MilkmanDansays...I read a headline about a "top official" saying that this situation was 'reprehensible'. I thought wow, somebody in Washington actually gets it! ...Yeah, and then I read on:
"Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said the leaking of reports that the National Security Agency and FBI monitored data from major Internet companies was 'reprehensible and risks important protections for the security of Americans.'"
...Mother fucker. That's right, the leaking of reports is the part that is reprehensible. Shit like this makes me ashamed at what my country has become, under the guidance of both parties for many, many years. We need a federal government reboot to the last goddamn man, plus single term limits for everybody. Maybe then they couldn't fuck everything up so bad. Then again, it's Washington, so I'm sure they'd find a way.
chingalerasays...Worst he's failed to accomplished is the gun bullshit-We wouldn't have even known about the "create the problem provide a solution" fast-and-furious crap if an agent hadn't been killed-The combination of rhetoric arising from Gifford and Sandyhook fueled the furnace, these are cocky bastards running a game down on the country because they know they can at this stage in the game. Give guns to feral Mexicans. Brilliant you dumb motherfuckers, brilliant. Fuck You. Oh, and now you want my taxes...Fuck you AND a bank.
SevenFingerssays...The only way to take these guys down is through the inside.... but when you get inside you realize how cushy and nice it is, then you try to force the door behind you to close.
radxsays...A comment over at the Guardian just reminded me of something. Remember the HBGary/Palantir hack in early 2011? It produced an outline on how to discredit WikiLeaks through attacks on its supporters, including Glenn.
I wonder what angles they're gonna use to attack him this time around...
Barsepssays...If you turn the "captions" on..........this video is quite funny.
Asmosays...It's just Obama making the place nice and welcoming for when the Chinese finally call in the US debt and take over the joint...
I'd tick sarcasm but to be brutally frank, the paranoid nutjobs are starting to look fucking sensible and centered...
lantern53says...All of this so-called war on terror does is allow the gov't to spy on law-abiding citizens. And Obama uses the IRS to target his political enemies.
renatojjsays...After the government takes all our money, hopefully our pockets will be left with some spare change we can believe in.
radxsays...Glenn published yet another piece 15 minutes ago, including a very pretty heatmap displaying the quantity of intelligence gathered in every nation.
Should I be proud to see my country put into the same category as Saudi frickin' Arabia? Probably not...
Fletchsays...LOL... a journalist scorned. Think he's forgotten?

eric3579says...Face palm. Really? It's only the shady people that are sweating this. A bit naive don't you think? Im guessing your way of thinking and the others that share your feelings is exactly what the government counts on to help them get away with this type of thing.
