Guy Films from Between Tracks Below Speeding Train

This video will leave your heart pounding and mouth agape. Some crazy bastard lays down between the rails and films the speeding train that steams by a few inches overhead.

the 180 turn with no body shown on the ground make me think it was on some kind of controled tripod as Wumpus said he's in a ditch.

Still it's an amazing shot!

yeah, not a person, the way it rises at the end is too steady and perect.. if that was a person they would be shaking. Not to mention the distance between the tracks where the camera is cant be more than 6-8" and the camera is always level.

Shenanigans!!!

I disagree, I think it was a person holding that camera. To me, the turn doesn't seem fluid enough, and I swear that I can hear him drawing a deep breath in at the 42 sec. mark. Not to mention, there's too much planning that would go into mounting a camera like that. What if it's not low enough? What if it turns too wide? There's a little bit too much to guesswork.

if i was gonna do this for real, i would film my freaking arm or something so that people on the intarwebs can't say "fake"... or hey, how about get a second camera to film you lying down?

if i was going to fake this, i would realise the robot is too expensive and not bother. Or i would find a bridge and put my camera on a stick. Notice how the shake is human, but the standing up is smooth, like if you had a camera on a stick.

As the train is coming towards the camera, you can see that there are guard rails on either side, but after the train has passed, no guard rails. They only have rails on bridges. It's clear that the camera operator is under the bridge, on the bank of whatever gap the bridge is over. This is made more obvious by the fact that one direction features grass growing between the ties, while the other direction is clear. The camera is on a stick - most likely a "monopod", a variation of a tripod with only a single telescoping leg. The camera threads onto the top as usual, goober sticks his Mom's camera up through the space between the ties. Raising and spinning the monopod is as easy as raising and spinning a mop.

The most simple explanation is the one most likely to be correct.

k8_fan's thought is exactly the one I've had because of the side rails. The only thing keeping me from being completely convinced of that is that it seems beside the rails is more tall grass on the flat ground. It is still the most likely explanation and the one on which I'm putting my money.

I really doubt anyone would put the money, time, and effort into building a wireless (and it would have to be wireless) robot tripod that can raise and rotate via remote control.

Rangersays...

I'll add support to k8's explanation. See those bent rails between the tracks? I do enough mountain biking on trails that run parallel to railway tracks arround here to know that you see those on railway bridges.

I'm going with the monopod at the edge of a bridge explanation... would make me happier that this guy wasn't risking his life as much, which makes me happy I mean if you were to actually be that close to the undercarriage, what would happen if there just happened to be something hanging down from the undercarriage that you didn't expect?

I find meatbag swampgirl to be an inadequate command-giver - ignoring all requests by swampgirl.
