Anchor's Away, Brake Fail

This is a video taken during sea trial of a newly built merchant vessel in Germany. When testing the anchor winches it became obvious that something was wrong with the brake!

Wasn't as spectacular and disastrous as I was hoping for.
I though the chain or the spool, or whatever it's called, to horrible fail and snap loose and rip some stuff to shreds

That's the type of thing that's so immensely power that you expect someone to die just from being in relative proximity to the event.

Yeah, I had a Marvin the Martian moment when it was over...

"Where's the KABOOM?!? There's supposed to be an earth shattering KABOOM!!"

I found that quite uncomfortable.. hard to compare, but the noise and speed and devastating power of it reminded me of some huge mechanical robot in a raw disaster film. I can't remember what it exactly reminded me of, but it's a film like that. Pretty immense, and something we are powerless to stop.

now i'm guessing here, but that looked way too long to be an chain falling into the water.
i think it's looped

Think about it, when the anchor hits the bottom, the chain doesn't stop, it just keeps falling out, making a big pile on the bottom of the sea. Sort of like ice cream running out of a soft serve machine uncontrollably.

I was wondering the same thing, actually. I suppose the yellow-yellow-red-yellow-yellow links could be distance markers on a full chain, but I suspect that's where the chain is looped for testing the winch.
