rebel media-greg elliot-twitter harassment case-not guilty

well after three years, and 100k in lawyer fees, greg elliot has been found not guilty in a twitter criminal harassment case in toronto.

lauren southern from rebel media lays out the particulars of the case and the judges ruling.

i had only recently become aware of this case, and have found it incredibly disturbing, and here on the sift many had something to say:

i am curious what you think about this case, and if you disagree with the judges ruling.

Fairbssays...

every group is cult like in some ways and I think overly PC people look to be offended and find offense where ever they can

I can't believe people wasted years of their lives and 100k on this nonsense. It's nice to see it's finally over but I from the sounds of things some people are far from ready to let it go. This guy is probably going to have to spend at least the next few years being very careful about what he says anywhere on the Internet.

Turning? Ezra Levant has always been just a tad Bill O'Reilly-ish.

Edit: Misunderstood your comment. I thought you were saying Ezra Levant was turning into bobknight when you were aiming that at enoch. I hope that was at least somewhat tongue in cheek. While we often complain about Americans not paying attention to Canada, I hardly expect them to be at all aware of Ezra Levant and the fact that he works for Canada's equivalent of Fox News. And who cares, all Canadians left, right, or centre (see what I did there) should be outraged at the prosecution of this case. And what makes appearances worse is that the CC who prosecuted this case was a women which makes me wonder if she had her own agenda, I hope not.

seriously dude?
that is a serious statement?
and why should i consider ANY criticism you offer with having any weight?

considering that on another video i posted you claimed the speaker was a nutter.thats it..no actual rebuttal or opinion..just "nutter",and when i asked for your actual reasons for your opinion.you admitted never having watched the video.

so let me guess.
ezra levant is maybe somebody you disagree?
(nevermind that it is lauren southern that has been following this case closely).
maybe he is right wing?libertarian?

maybe he is,i have no idea, but just by your knee-jerk and ill-thought out comment and your OBVIOUS bias.i think it is safe to assume that is the metric on how you judge the information you consume.

so let me ask you.
what information being presented here is false?untrue?fabricated? hell, even biased?

hmmmm?

you have done what you always do.
you do a drive by comment that attacks the speaker, poster or lecturer without examining the evidence and/or information.

and in THIS case you insult ME.
that somehow because i post a video from someone you happen to disagree, dislike or despise automatically translates to me becoming a bobknight wanna-be who worships at the altar of limbaugh.

so you dont like ezra levant.
who cares?
does that make ANY of the information in this video any less true? or pertinent?

nope.

so if you do not have anything of value to offer except for petty insults.i ask that you kindly take this cookie and go play outside.this is an adult conversation.

Were this to happen to me, I would gleefully turn around and file charges against the women for filing a false police report and start a civil suit against both the women and the state for lost wages, psychological damages, etc.

The prosecutor is a complete and total idiot for bringing this to trial. They had the tweets, they knew in advance there were no threats so... wtf? What exactly was the argument the prosecutor tried to make here? That calling someone a "fat ass" is sexual harassment because, you know, it uses the word "ass"???

Seriously hope this guy turns the system to his advantage and pwns everybody involved in this case.

I still can't fathom why the women weren't prosecuted as well....and successfully. They claimed as a group that he was a pedophile, publicly and repeatedly. THAT'S actionable harassment. There's no way this guy didn't feel harassed and like his life/safety were/are in danger.

Also, he should be at the least making an official complaint about the prosecutor, and sue her for malicious prosecution and abuse of office if not suing them for all his losses AND punitive damages. What the hell was she thinking, and what was her office thinking allowing her to proceed?

Jinxsays...

"If you don't want to be harassed on the internet just switch it off or block people right?"

hmmmmmmmmmm...

Apart from that the whole situation seems like a giant waste of time. I can't really understand why the prosecution thought they had a case if all the evidence they had were a few fairly innocuous tweets. Kinda makes me think that not all the facts are being revealed tbh.

I agree.
This type of scenario is why Australia has a defamation law.

To briefly clarify, calling someone fat, dumb, ugly, or mean etc is harassment, but it's NOT defamation.

However to falsely claim someone did or didn't do something, whereby the claim largely affects their life in a negative way (job loss, public &/or family opinion etc) as a direct result, then it IS defamation and has the potential to deteriorate someones life to an unrecoverable extent.. And of all subjects, a pedo-claim is the most poisonous accusation.
