The Alternative To Tasering People

A little compassion goes a long way.

Compared to the unconstitutional travesty that was Atlanta.

It's good to see this kind of positive view spread, compared to the constant flood of fascist cop videos though. This officer understands his job is to serve and protect.

I would love for this to go up the sift... this is how you get respect, this is how you behave in a just and fair society. You'll get a WHOLE lot better outcome from doing this than from doing what we've seen other idiot cops do.

We need this up the sift for:
* Showing bad cops what a good cop would do in the same situation that they'd get all aggressive
AND
* Showing that there really are good cops out there, we may see videos of the bad cops, but that's because people aren't as interested in seeing a good cop doing a good, respectful job.

It's hard to tell if the guy wearing the MASK over his face appreciates the officer's speech. I know they don't agree with the officer that America is the greatest country in the world.

Tasers are used against people high on drugs and drink, people throwing rocks or barriers at cops and anyone attempting to incite a riot. Tasers were invented as a humane alternative to choke holds, rubber bullets and batons.

The Taser inventors deserve a Nobel Prize and liberals should praise this awesome invention since people Tasered and not shot live and go on through our revolving-door jails and prisons.

QuantumM. I agree that tasers could be an alternate to not shooting someone. However, they are not completely safe. I have heard that there is at least 200 people who have died from them since they have started using them (I'd rather be shot by a rubber bullet, thank you). Second, bad cops are using them for non-threatening situations as well. Search this site and you can find plenty of situations where they have been used and should not have been.

You forgot one category qm: people at the airports who don't understand english.

Tasers are just another tool, but as with any tool it is easier to be lazy and just taser someone instead of using de-escalation techniques. But again, in the cases where force is actually needed to subdue someone, it is much better than having to shoot them.

It just comes down to training. We need to pay officers more and make it so they have a large influx of cadets so it isn't a big issue to kick off an officer who truly is not fit for the job or abuses their power.

Being the sentimental bastard I am, and also because I'm currently drunk (hey, my dad was 100% Irish, so I'm getting a jump on St. Patty's Day. And I'm also off work tomorrow. HA!), I want to send this police officer my most positive vibes. I'm an atheist, and I don't believe in New Age spirituality either, but this officer deserves respect. So whether it's merely my "vibes", or recognition from the general public that this dude is the textbook definition of "public servant", I wish this officer the best. He has done credit not only to himself and his department, but also to every law enforcement officer around the world.

They have a difficult job, and even the biggest yet most realistic cop-hater in the world must respect the difficulties that law enforcement entails. Please don't misunderstand me; I'm generally a law enforcement skeptic myself. But if ALL cops around the world were this decent then no one would ever use the term "pig".

So what's the alternative? Did he punch someone in the face after the video stopped? Did someone call him 'dude'? Because he does not work on a ranch!
Lack... of... violence... can't... compute.

Every time you see a weapon that is non-lethal you should question it. Non-lethal weapons aren't used in war, they're used internally so you don't kill your own proles.

It's nice to see a friendly officer but it may be a new strategy... Preaching at a group of people uninterupted for an extended period of time would take the fight out of them. It would also make the police look good.

So on the douchebag cop videos, someone tends to have the guy's name and address within like 30 seconds. Its a long shot, but maybe we could find this guys work e-mail and send him a note that nerds all across the globe think he is awesome? And he is an honor to the badge etc, etc.

On an unrelated topic... The ironic thing about the Scientology center they're protesting in front of is that it happens to be right next door to Yogananda's "Church of All Religions". Heh.

Kerotansays...

I get seriously worried that the world is going to end when things turn out for the better.

Kind policemen who give a crap? what next? politicians who don't lie? a Health care system for all which works brilliantly?

I think I need to lie down...

Joking aside, we need to show that we care about people who care. I don't know about you, but I am going to be emailing them singing the praises of this officer. In a world where the image of policemen is one of power crazed fat men with a fetish for people not calling them dude, I think we can do something to rectify that.

Paybacksays...

Hi, I appreciate seeing the police in a positive, 90%-of-the-force-really-is-like-this, light.

It's nice, but I gotta ask how much of a fucked up unit he would have to be to tazer, teargas, or pepperspray a group of people having a peaceful, organized, and obviously non-violent protest. I mean really people, they were barely even chanting, they were standing behind the barricades, they actually MOVED OUT OF THE WAY when he mentioned the sidewalk, and ABOVE ALL ELSE they were LISTENING to him. Not one "don't tase me, bro" idiot in the bunch.

Bringing out the taser is beyond asshole, it would be professional suicide.

quantumushroomsays...

I defend Taser though no Taser was in video.

No officer of the law using a Taser is attempting to even cause permanent injuries and certainly not injuries leading to death. For deadly force situations, they have firearms.

I am certain that Tasers have saved many more lives than they have taken.

I am also certain that more police officers are killed each year by savage suspects than suspects have been killed by Taser accidents.

Tasers: 1

Drunken fools: BZZZZT!

Paybacksays...

I hope someone senior to him sees that ratemycop profile. He does deserve it.

Even without a taser, which would have been more entertaining.

Sorry about that last bit, just watched the latest Zero Punctuation, and sarcasm mode is stuck on.
