From all these videos I'm getting the distinct impression that even lying on the ground with your hands behind your back can be considered "resisting arrest" by some officers.

I guess we are seeing more of this because even with the dash cam videos, an officer will still be able to kick your ass and get away with it. Or... maybe its because of the dash cam videos we get to see what used to happen in the blind eye of the public.

$10 says the officer gets on paid suspension at most for a few days and then things are back to normal.

wow for once i'm surprised by the seemingly normal amount of money being sued for. $75k... yeah that's a lot, but it at least seems fair enough.

There's a matter of is it enough compensation for the victim and then there's a matter of is it sufficiate punishment for the mega-corporation so they won't do it again. If it's a big enough company it might take 10 million before they feel a sting.

I don't really agree with the "fascist cop" tag TRB, but whatever. I generally favor the side of law enforcement, but once again cannot on this. I don't care if that guy was telling the officer how ugly and fat his momma is, if they just finished an epic fight Peter Griffin/Giant Chicken-style, or what have you. The dash cam clearly shows the guy standing there doing nothing to get tased, yet he does...in the back of the neck. While these kinds of incidents may not be that common, I think police agencies across the country need to take a look at their training of and need for tasers as well as a hard look at who they hire.

You'd think officers would have caught on to the fact that they have dash cams by now. If you want to brutalize suspects do it behind the car, not in front of it. Sheesh.

The only punishment that i can dream of that would make me feel like justice was done is if the police officer was ordered to recieve 5 "gimmes" in the space of a year.

A gimme is where he would randomly be working or going about his day in the comfort of his own home, or out in the streets feeling safe. Then someone would - legally - come out of nowhere, when he leasts expects it, and tortures him with a taser gun during a 5 minute ordeal.

He's got 5 of them in a year. Enjoy the feeling of absolute helplessness and oppression.

And how does someone get their hands on a dash cam tape like that anyway? An internal friend? They're lucky that idiot cop didn't just break his cam and lose the tape.

HELLO! Are you BLIND?! The guy's black. He's BOUND to be guilty of SOMETHING. Tasering him is the only way to make sure he learns to stop hating whitey. </sarcasm>

But, honestly, he had to know something was gunna happen. You don't stand around ON TOP OF A PLANTER looking suspicious as all hell as a brick flies at a cop car from his direction. We also don't know the whole story. Was anybody else even around to point the finger at? He could have been talking back to the cop, and the situation was more heated than the video shows. He was probably warned more than once. I'm sure there is a reason the video leaves out the part leading up to this incident.

Also, when was the last time you heard of some white crackhead, who just got beat down by the cops, suing the police department for "violating their civil rights?" Either it's racist black people, who damn well know they're guilty of something, throwing down the civil rights defense, or it's racist white people only violating the civil rights of black people. Either way, SOMEBODY got pissed off, and SOMEBODY overreacted.

If some fool threw a brick through my window, you better damn well believe the last thing I'm concerned about is his motherfucking civil rights. The prick gave up that right when he damaged my property and put my safety in jeopardy. However, if this guy wasn't the one responsible for the brick throwing (and he probably was), it's still pretty god damned suspicious to be 18 years old, and standing on top of a planter on city property, outside the police headquarters.

I just get the image in my head of some young punk listening to too much cop-hating rap music, glaring at every cop car that passes by. Finally, he reaches the boiling point and just chucks the nearest heavy object at some white oppressor. When he gets beat down for it and handed his well-deserved punishment, it's "Oh HELL nah!" And now we get to see the judicial system being exploited once again, in the name of 'civil rights violations.'

I am sick of the abuses of the uniformed corporation.

I think the guy deserves $200,000 at least from this. I mean $75,000 is nothing compared to what he went through. I'd have a problem trusting ANY cop after something like this.

Thanks to liberal vermin and a warped "justice" system, this prick will probably get his payday (the lawyer will take half) he'll piss that money away in a week, and we'll all be seeing his name a few more times on the web until his stupid ass finally gets 30-year tuition at Crossbars College for armed robbery at age 24.
