Star Trek is a science fiction film directed by J. J. Abrams, written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and produced by Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk. It is the eleventh Star Trek film and features the main characters of the original Star Trek series, who are portrayed by a new cast. It follows James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) enrolling at Starfleet Academy, his first meeting with Spock (Zachary Quinto), and their battles with Romulans from the future, who are interfering with history. The film is scheduled to be released on May 8, 2009 in North America and the United Kingdom.

Development of the film began in 2005 when Paramount Pictures contacted Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman for ideas to revive the franchise. The creative team contrasted Orci and Lindelof, who consider themselves "Trekkies", with casual fans like Abrams, who all aimed to create a film that would interest a general audience. They wanted to be faithful to Star Trek canon, but also introduced elements of their favorite novels, modified continuity with the time travel storyline, and modernized the production design of the original show. Filming took place from November 2007 to April 2008 under intense secrecy. Midway through the shoot, Paramount chose to delay the release date from December 25, 2008 to May 2009, arguing the film would perform better in the summer.(Thanks Wikipedia)

I'm with you Raigen.
I just don't know what to think and this trailer doesn't help. At this stage im leaning towards it might be good but it won't be a real star trek movie.

Is that Sylar from Heroes playing Spock? If so, good choice. Edit: Yup it's him. Just found it on IMDb.

I have been waiting for this movie since the teaser came out. I can't wait to see it.

I came really close once. She tripped over a rock and her lips almost touched mine when she collided with me. It was a magical moment, and I will cherish it forever.

36 stitches and a broken arm later she even gave me a HUG!

Thus far, I am the 23rd geek to upvote a leaked cam video for just the freakin' trailer of the new Star Trek movie.
Have any of us ever kissed a girl?

Nope and I am still a virgin.

Movie is pretty, but how is the story and stuff? Ugh.

Someone posted that they want to know more about the story.

Well, there's this mildly disassociated bunch of people with these heroic powers. One's a dashing swashbuckling leader who buckles swashes with great flair, another seems to be the reincarnation of MacGyver as a nuclear physicist, a third has the ability to use a string and two tin cans to instantaneously decipher alien languages across light years of distance, another has the spooky ability to navigate a skyscraper-sized starship through a grocery store revolving door with inches to spare, a fifth can repeatedly resurrect the dead, and so on.

Oh, and then there's all these disposable cannon-fodder extras in red shirts.

By the way, Spock's the bad guy that's trying to kill all the rest of them so he can steal their powers with his patented and creepy nerve pinch move.

All in all, I can't wait to see this.

One of the other movies - Generations - was supposed to start. In the leaked script version - with Kirk flying around in a jet pack at the beginning. I remember that because I was the typical geek kid disappointed to NOT see that in the opening. Budget and time cut I guess.

Jumping out of the car = similar effect. But wait, this is ALL kids? Really? (reads wiki). Huh, all new cast. Interesting. Hmm, talk about *spacy too.

Why does the description say it will premier 25th of December this year when it at the end of the trailer says May 8th 2009?

Thanks for noticing that, I had some old info from Wikipedia, I've corrected it now.

Natural progression of spinoffs:

The Muppets --> Muppet Babies
Scooby Doo --> A Pup Named Scooby-Doo
Tom and Jerry --> Tom and Jerry Kids
The Flintstones --> The Flintstone Kids
Beverly Hills, 90210 --> (teeny bopper) 90210
Superman --> Smallville
X-Men --> X-Men Evolution
Dumb and Dumber --> Dumb and Dumberer

My point? This is TOTALLY the Muppet Babies of the nerdgasm world.

I love Star Trek as much as the next geek, but you need someone talented writing and directing it. All of the writers/directors for this movie seem to have a pedigree in mindless action flicks like Mission Impossible 3.

This looks like it's going to be a disgrace to the star trek franchise.

Yet another clown who can't write decent dialog is trying to compensate with gratuitous/illogical stunts and special effects.

Isn't that the point of Star Trek to ignore Newton's laws. i.e. warp, transporter, phasers

From the maker of such hollow Hollywood tripe as Armageddon and Cloverfield comes the Phantom-Menace-ization of Star Trek!

Henceforth Star Trek will exercise your amygdala more than your cerebrum!

Cloverfield was the best Home-Movie ever made! It was even better than the infamous Blankfist Holiday special.

Since when is building a spaceship outside, in the middle of the desert a good idea?
And is it just me or does Spock look all pissed off at 1:25?

EDIT: Oh, and it doesn't look to me like he's violating any laws of physics:

1. Kirk and the car are moving towards the canyon.
2. Kirk jumps from the car in the opposite direction.
3. The force from his jump slightly increases the car's velocity while just slightly decreasing his own.
4. He hits the ground still moving towards the canyon but friction caused by his hands trying to dig into the dirt is enough to slow him.

Stupid? Yes. Still possible? Yes.

Question is: why the fuck would someone do that anyway? In the context of the preview it seems totally pointless. Oh right, it's a JJ Abrams movie.
