Sarah Silverman Comments on Louis CK

Will it get better or just buried under the next news cycle?

From Hollywood stars to politicians to clergy to others with power

Bob Seger said it

One thing for certain it ain't never gonna stop

Here comes the rich man in his big long limousine
Here comes the poor man all you got to have is green
Here comes the banker and the lawyer and the cop
One thing for certain it ain't never gonna stop

The Louie thing is a watershed moment in what is classified as unacceptable ... because he asked permission and they said "yes" ... but because they really /felt/ "no", it's as if they had said "no".

They didn't say "yes"... what did you read?

From what I’ve read, he always “asked permission” (his words), but it seems like that was a formality and it was gonna happen anyway.

Either way, if someone is clearly uncomfortable with what you’re doing.. ok, it’s technically legal, but it’s still pretty fucked up.

HenningKOsaid:

I dunno if that either confirms or denies the begrudging-but-technically-consent line... but there are plenty of other women who didn't say "yes".

Am I missing something in the Laura Silverman story?

Why did she read a book that she did not enjoy? Why was she sharing a room with someone she did not want to share a room with? Why did she not leave the room?

This is a bizarre situation but IMHO not cause to complain years later.

"I broke up with this guy who is now famous but wasnt then. I still agreed to go on a cross country trip and stay in motel rooms together with him and he would warn me he wanted to masturbate in the morning and that i should leave if i minded but i stayed, turned around and read a book that i did not enjoy and now - me too!"

Meh.

Doesn't sound like shes complaining as much as being some kind of witness to a pattern of behavior. I think she's just trying to do right by the women Louie wronged.

"Thank you! I have refrained from initiating this conversation for a reason. Not criminal. Not abuse of power. I guess I’m just compelled at this point to be a character witness of sorts for those brave enough to finally come forward."
