Looks like the banks overflowed during breakup. Drain? Lava cave?

Sink hole? From what I understand flowing water and limestone and/or other material getting eaten away over time creates these, so it'd make sense if it was near or under a body of water.

Can it eat other whirlpools? Blendtec blenders? Or will it blend?
